December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 17th, and am still in quite a bit of pain. I'm also very tired. I'm trying not to beat myself up for not getting in all the Protein, liquids and walking, because I know it will all come in time. I drank an entire cup of milk today! I blended it with powdered milk (for extra protein), cinnamon, nutmeg, a stevia packet and some ice. It tasted like egg nog (which I love). I have not weighed myself; I don't want to gain an obsession with the numbers on the scale. I do know I have lost quite a bit of weight, which feels great. I know a disappointing number on the scale that didn't coincide with how I felt would only bring me down. I will know specifically what I've lost at my two week follow up. It's so nice to be able to share with you all! Keep the updates coming!

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on the 16th. I had shoulder pain on days 1 - 2, now I only take pain medication if needed. I had 2 or 3 instances of stomach/esophagus cramping, and those were really painful. I am happy that hasn't re-occurred. Nausea was also bad initially, but I have not vomited at all since the surgery. I have no incision pain. I walk around a lot, and I feel it helps tremendously with pain, gas, and my breathing. If I stay in bed too long, everything goes downhill. I am struggling to get all Protein in. Finally I decided to just drink the damn Isopure plain first thing in the morning to get it over with. I had initially tried to make ice cubes, mix with Crystal Light, but nothing made it taste better. Now I just plug my nose and drink it up. Thankfully I can swallow easily. I am giving myself Levonox shots (to prevent blood clots) daily (until day 7 post op). I am SO SICK of broth. I have 2 more days of Clear Liquids and I can't wait to taste a Protein Shake again (who would have thought!). I am actually dying to chew something crunchy and salty, like a cracker. On my first day home I was feeling miserable and for a couple of hours I had regrets - not anymore. I know this was the right decision for me. I hope everyone is doing great and healing well. Cheers to a great New Year ahead!!

Surprised you were permitted to drink milk so early out.. Didn't get approved for that until stage 2 started on dec 19 and still haven't tried it .... My NUT says I can do unsweetened almond milk if I want now .... Initially some WLS patients can't tolerate dairy

Just a note --- I was sick of broth too until I just tried paneras chicken veggie broth; I just strained out the chunky ingredients and the broth tastes scrumptious!!! Hoping I don't get sick of paneras broth.

Good luck to you!

So prob not best idea to take my huge boxer out for a walk. He's dragged me to the ground and across back yard after a squirrel. :(. He doesn't usually misbehave like that but I'm a little sore now. More so my back, but not good 6 days post op

Yeah, I've been surprised at how differently my doctor does things vs. others. I didn't have a liquid-only pre-op diet (only low carb, low fat), he doesn't want his patients to have Protein Shakes post-op, I'm suppose to drink two glasses of milk a day, etc. He's an incredibly skilled, highly-rated physician, so I don't question his procedures, it's just interesting that his guidelines are so different!

Today I am 4 days post op and still in a lot of pain. My husband has to go back to work today so I'm on my own with my 3 year old. Hopefully she will behave for me because physically I am unable to care for her to my full potential but I have no choice.

I also weighed myself today for the first time and I lost 10 pounds since surgery day. I'm very happy with that number! :)

That is very interesting-- so many varied recommendations by skilled professionals in the same field

My husband goes back to work today too, leaving me with our eight year old twins and our four year old. It'll be a lot of "sure you can play video games!" "yes to tv!" in our house today!

So I accomplished the impossible, I started my liquid diet on a 4 day cruise! There were several challenges but the fact that there is always veggies available (my dr allows) probably made it easier than doing at home. I stopped and grabbed shakes to go with me. I think the motivation came from wanting to do several things that I "exceeded" the weight limit for. Wow! I can not believe surgery is 1 week away!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
