Thanks everyone! Glad to see I'm "normal". Lol

Jen, I thought this surgery was going to be super easy compared to others (c section, etc) I had too. I just wasn't prepared for it, I guess. Glad you're feeling great! Can't wait to get to that point!

You guys are seriously the best and I super appreciate the support and feedback!!! Thanks again!!!

Morning all- day 9 and down 18 since 1st pre- op appt. And 10 since surgery. Crazy! My parents went back to Arkansas yesterday and it's just me and my girls now. I had my first kind of depressed day; felt kind of empty and wanted to eat something solid ( more like trigger food) so bad. I kept hearing my NUT explain why it's so important to follow food plan. Yet, I wanted to really eat. I'm starting to see how eating has been such a way to deal with anything uncomfortable. My body is not hungry, yet I'm obsessing about food. This was my first day doing everything: carpool, job, take kids to after school activities, went to restaurant, and i started to see how different life is going to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy and kind of shocked by the weight loss, but don't want to sabotage myself yet again. Anyone having these type of thoughts?

I haven't had to deal with anything like that yet. But I know it will happen some time. I love food. And food has always been there for me.

Just do your best to stay on plan. I know it's easier said than done. And keep talking to us here. :)

Hi glitter! I also had my surgery on Monday, finally home since yesterday evening but I also have that se weird pain. I too can feel my Water sit there and then slowly drain in ... It's hard to describe but what I feel is like a small version of you know if you are starving and your stomach growls and kinda hurts At the same time ,that's the small type of pain I get when I drink. It used to be with most sips now it's just occasionally. I am having a hard time meeting Protein and water goals just because I am not hungry and I have to force myself to sip. I haven't been nauseous since I first came out of the anesthesia , so I am thanking my lucky stars! I got my first shower today since surgery and oh my goodness that helped! I am in some pain and discomfort though which I am sure is typical.. I hope you start to feel better :)

This board is amazing by the way it's no nice to have support from people who are going through what you are going through!! I am so thankful for everyone's posts!

Also how is everyone sleeping ? Is sleeping on our side ok? I can only take sleeping on my back for so long! I was a side/ stomach sleeper so that's been hard for me !

I started sleeping on my side on night 3 or 4. I just woke up that way. I have been a side sleeper since I got pregnant. Since then I have slept on my side. I do get a small shot of pain in my stomach when I first roll over but it's nothing excruciating or unbearable. It had helped to be able to rest the way I like to.

Hey all- I'm so sorry for those of you with severe nausea and pain. I was lucky in that I didn't have any of that. So for those about to go to surgery; it might go that way for you. My worst pain was the air and gas in upper body that went away after 4 days or so. I did have some pain swallowing initially, but 9 days out its pretty much gone. Now, I just notice if I drink too fast or too much I may get a heartburn feeling or burp. Just stay on your pain med schedule; that helps you heal. Walk and stay as comfortable as you can. You'll get through it and feel like a different person in a week.

Yeah. The important thing is to know that at worst, it's a long week. But it will all pass and you will feel totally different (and much better) in a week.

So I was going to go home today, but I'm staying one more night. It hurts to sip the teeny tiniest sips of Water, and I still have yet to pass any kind of gas. They even gave me a finger up the butt with supository stuff on it. Hahahahaha.

But other than that, I'm doing really good. Tired, but good.

The sensation of the liquids going down goes away. For me it was pretty quickly. I remember in the beginning that was all I could think about and couldn't imagine how food would feel. My surgery was February 4 and I'm now on mushy foods. It all goes down fine. Good luck to all of you!!!

As bad as mine was I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I'm headed home now. Thank you all for your encouragement. It means so much! SJ is still in the hospital having problems with Fluid intake so be sure n keep her in your thoughts.

I'd totally do It again too. I just have have a weird spasm feeling like my stomach is pushing upwards for a second. Totally weird and hurts. I figured I didn't know how many liquids I'd get in at home so I (and my roommate , she has the same issues) decided to stay one more night.

But I'm doing good. I just wish I would fart already! My stomach isn't even making noises, and I have a finger of suppositories up my butt. Lolz.

Apparently! It was even a poor student nurse who had to stick her finger in my butt. I felt more bad for her than I did for me or my butt. Hahah

But that's what student nurses are for! (I saw that knowing you are an student nurse, and I'm a former student nurse, lol!) Hopefully that gets your motor running properly.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
