Just My Observation....

Recommended Posts

Something I noticed over the years.....

When people say they have lost 100 lbs, or some other great weight loss within a relatively short amount of time,.... as great as that is,..... newly banded people should not feel discouraged.....what many of these people do not say is what there starting weight was....

I have observed, that the heavier a person is, the more they will loose....at least in the beginning....sooner or later the Honeymoon is over and then the playing field is leveled, so to speak.....(not always, just me generalization)

Someone who starts out 300 lbs plus.... and looses a tremendous amount of weight early on , is no different than someone with a considerable lower starting weight and loosing a lot less weight initially....

Not saying this is always true, but newly banded people should realize this and sometimes read between the lines...this is NOT a competition for how much we loose, in pounds....

I have lost 105 lbs.....I have not one more lb. left to loose without being unhealthy......the next person may say they lost 100lbs in the first 6-8 months....(Which is excellent) but they may still have 100 lbs to go....

So it's not always about pounds lost, but PERCENTAGES.....

Again, I only say this for the benefit of newly banded people, don't get discouraged by what you read.....

I agree. For some, 100 lbs is only 1/2 way or 1/4 to goal. Others, 100 lbs is their goal. So it depends on starting weight, and it does seem that the folks who have more lose lose the 1st 100 quicker than others. Best wishes, all

i am one of those (who started out hefty)..336 to be exact...i was as wide as i am tall... yep, i lost quick (but) i am still losing the same as someone who only has 50 or so pounds to lose....1/4 pound at a time....the same as it went on..and i have a ways to go yet.....hell some who lost what i have so far are at goal already......how does that make me feel?? see (same thing)

and for those new ones who sigh at my loss and others who lost alot quickly, would you like to have started out at my starting weight and a BMI of 62?...didnt think so...so let your body lose at its own pace and be thankful/grateful for any loss as it counts..and gets you that much closer to your goal you wish to be at...

I started at 233 lbs and have lost 73 pounds in 15 months. I have 20 left to go but I'm in no rush. I feel better than I ever have. Love my band no matter how fast or slow I loose!!

What a great post - you have gotten is so darn right I know it's crazy to compare what goes on in my life to what goes on in others. I am amazed by some of the losses on this site it gives me inspiration for what the future holds for me.. but at the same time it can cause me to be dang what is wrong with me why is my loss so small. thanks for posting :)

Same with exercise -- just cannot compare to any one but ourselves. It's motivating to see people who could not walk out to the mailbox and back now cycling, walking, even running -- or just getting whatever exercise they can. But we all have to begin somewhere and those starting lines are so individualized. Mine was doing something every day. Yesterday is the first day since my surgery that I did not have a real walk. I tried to tell myself that I did walk here and there, it adds up -- those little mind games. Today I was on the treadmill in the basement and I tried to stop early. One day of not walking and I was back to the same head games of not wanting to do something I have enjoyed every single day. It is new for me to love exercise and I'm not letting myself off the hook for that! So I did some extra time just to get my brain functioning properly again. Exercise is not a punishment, it's a reward. Geesh, I am thick when it comes to that basic formula. Resistant! But the new me is overcoming all that and I can thank the band as I did not have this kind of will power before.

Thanks for posting this B52.

I hope all banders read this. We are not in a competition. We are just wanting to be thin and healthy.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
