January 2014 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

To be honest, I still haven't lifted her because they told me not to lift anything over 15 lbs for 6 weeks. She is just about 2 and just about 27 lbs so I am still afraid to chance it, although I hate it and want to hold her every time she asks. I do have my husband put her on my lap when I sit or she will climb up onto the couch and sit on my lap or lay on me. The first week, week and a half though I didn't even have her on my lap because of the incisions healing, it was really hard but I kept telling myself that 2 weeks versus the rest of my life is a very small sacrifice and they are so young at this age that they won't remember. Plus it is perfectly ok to snuggle with your 10 month old as much as they want, it will make you both feel better. Do you have someone that can pick up your little one and put them next to you if you are sitting up on the couch or a bed? The doctor or nurse should tell you upon being released from the hospital how long before you can lift your little one. Wow, surgery is just around the corner for you, you will do GREAT!!! Good luck, remember to walk when they give you the ok to and take this time to take care of you and put yourself first, I know it's hard to as a mommy but it's important.

I have my mother in law for 3 days, my husband for a full week home from work and then I am going to spend the 2nd week at my moms house with the kids. I definitely will have help putting him on my lap. I just feel mommy guilt. Yes I going to try and walk as soon as possible after surgery. It helped me during my 2 csections as well. Thanks for the info!

My MD says no lifting 10 pounds for another month (sleeved Jan 14). It increases your risk of developing hernias in the surgical sites, so I take it seriously. We have been getting half gallons of milk b/c surgeon said not to lift a full gallon.

Although I am obeying all my rules, I am recovering from my second post-op infection. First one was bladder, from the Foley catheter. It cleared up quick with antibiotics but brought a fever. This second one is mysterious with a fever over 101 that is gone for now, and doc is not sure why; they are keeping an eye out for a small leak possibly because my upper central abdomen is swollen and tender. Keeping my fingers crossed and trusting in good medicine.

Hi Everyone!

I'm Carla. 43 years old from Poughkeepsie, NY.

I was sleeved on January 8, 2014. So far so good (knock on wood). Just started the pureed stage...actually a little nervous to eat food now. Been browsing the internet for some recipe ideas.

Just wanted to say hello!

I just had surgery this past morning. Everyone is so amazing here, but I had debilitating gas problems as many people encounter and they are giving me 2 different types of anti-nausea drugs for relief because I constantly feel nauseous. I got up and walked around immediately after I was taken to my room. Was horrible but I think I am through the worst of it.

Surgery went well. Pain free at the moment w/o medication. Just uncomfortable bc of hiccups and gas. Drinking my liquids. I could go home today if everything is ok instead of tomorrow

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
