I am so glad you chose Dr. Shillingford he really is a good person and an excellent surgeon. After my surgery and I came back for my post op check he literally spent an hour plus with me answering every question that I had. At no time did he ever make me feel like I was taking his time. The hospital that does the testing was done so quickly I couldn't believe it. I might have hit it at a good time but literally I was taken from dept to dept and done within and hour and a half at most. The other nice thing is Dr. Shillingford doesn't keep you on puree and liquid forever after the surgery. He gets you back on food pretty quick and everyone I know that had him for their surgeon did not have any trouble doing this. There is a restaurant there called BJ's on the Beach and you absolutely have to go there before surgery!! It has a beautiful view right on the beach and the food is really really good! If I can help you with anything please don't hesitate to ask. Nancy is amazing and will answer your questions and help you with absolutely everything! Good luck to you!! :)

Oooh, thanks! I'll definitely have to try that! I've never been to Boca Raton (or south/eastern Florida) so we're thinking about going down a few days early and having some fun on the beach before the surgery.

Definitely good to hear about the puree/liquid thing... I was NOT looking forward to that. I'll certainly contact you with any questions and I'll let you know how it goes! I'm hoping to go down near the end of next month. It's so exciting!

If you go on Orbitz or Kayak you can get some good hotel deals. I always stay at a Fairfield Inn in Deerfield which is pretty close to the hospital and the doctors office. It's a very clean hotel and has a good Breakfast. I think I paid like $74 a night and it could be cheaper if you tie inthe flight, hotel and car all together. There is a theater called IPIC that is amazing and in a great shopping area. It is a little pricey but the seats are leather recliners and if you sit in the upper section you get your own waiter with pillows, blankets and free popcorn. The food there is awesome also.......A total experience!! I am very excited for you! Let me know if I can help you with anything! :)

In Ohio the going rate is around $15,000.

I had my surgery in Cincinnati with Dr. Trace Cury. Mine was 14,700. That was for everything from pre-tests, to the surgeon, and anesthesiologist fee, to stay etc. It was everything. When I was doing my research on surgeons, and prices etc. I looked mostly in the Dayton-Cincinnati area because that's where I live. Most would not give me a price, or even estimate the price because everything was charged separately. There was the price of the surgery, the fee's for the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and other staff. Their was a charge for the hospital stay etc. It was not a lump sum because everything was charged separately. I had called on office who told me to call the billing department where the surgery would be taken place to get an estimate. That estimate was a total of 25,000. I went with Cury. I have to say I believe I made right decision. Not just because it was 10,000 dollars cheaper, but because he's just amazing.

I have a blog where I've collected some of the more affordable self-pay prices from various surgeons. It's selfpaysleeve.blogspot.com . It's divided into states, so you can see if there is an affordable surgeon close to you. Hope it helps :)

Wow, that site is great! Thanks for putting that together. Definitely helpful for those of us who don't have insurance (or like me who don't want to go through all the BS associated with the approval process).

Looks like Texas has the lowest cost. Wish it wasn't so darn far away.

This is a great site but you need to add Dr. Kahlil Shillingford in Boca Raton, FL he is completely all inclusive there are no extra fees and he is $10,500. Cheaper than the others listed and an awesome surgeon. I did a full extensive check on him and he has nothing against him only good revues. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
