What's Your Plan For Thanksgiving Dinner?

Recommended Posts

So now, the question is, What's the plan for the leftovers? I have to get this stuff out of my house!! I have a piece of chocolate pie left that is my all time favorite (has cream cheese and pecans in it). I sent almost everything else out of here, but I have that left. Uggh. I should just throw it away....but that seems so wrong, lol! Eating it is a bad idea, too. For me, this is the hard work. I just can't have some things in the house. I've had too many calories the last three days....and this is the slippery slope for me....where my resolve gradually weakens. I just thought I'd "say" it out loud here to mentally bitchslap myself into a reality check. Thanks :) I might start a thread asking if I can just eat the pie ;)

I'll throw my leftover pie away if you throw yours out too!

I literally threw away 1/2 a chocolate cake that was left... My weakness!! But I talked myself into dumping it, then did it before I could talk myself out if it. Playing mind games with yourself can be confusing!! :)

Yes with pictures Of the pie in that thread, because we haven't had major drama here for a few days, lol! Give the pie away to someone, girl. Your weight loss on MFP always inspires the rest of us.

I was still on full liquid diet so I couldn't eat for TDay. My family went to my sister in laws where there was five or six turkeys and food galore. As I was only a little over a week post op I elected to stay home. I think it was the best decision for me. Friday I cooked all day and made a 20 lb turkey, stuffing, green Beans, corn, sweet potato casserole, rolls, homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, mini chocolate & banana cream pies, tarts made with jam, chocolate cake, cupcakes, mini cupcakes, pumpkin pie, cheesecake, Jello. I ate none of it! The hardest restraint was probably the skin on the turkey as that is one of my all time favorite foods. It is weird but I have cooked a lot of foods that I can not eat for my family since surgery and it kind of makes me feel better even though I have abstained. Today I consolidated left overs and put together a turkey Soup that is on the stove. I will cook that all day. Figured I can puree it and have some by Wednesday when my diet changes. Unlike most I am used to having junk in the house I can't eat so this isn't much different BUT if you can't have it around and not eat it then you should throw it away. I know it seems wrong but it is better for you!

Well I cooked Thanksgiving for 15 people. I learned that I way over bake for this holiday. I was shocked at the amount of leftover sweets after my meal. Warning...graphic food porn to follow...Candied pecans, yam cake, magic bars, homemade whipped cream, smores Cookies, and of course pumpkin and apple pies. I talked to hubs and I am going to attempt to host Christmas next year instead of Thanksgiving (we don't do a traditional Christmas dinner).

I was not as happy with my Thanksgiving eating though. Yes, I ate way less than I wanted, but I didn't like eating junk food all day (I ate deviled eggs during the course of the day and a taste of my enchilada dip, and a couple crackers with a cheese spread). I also wasn't happy with the dessert eating. I ate mainly Ham and green bean casserole for dinner. I took one bite of mash potatoes (no gravy) and one bite of stuffing (mainly just to check out my new recipe). I also had a couple small glasses of wine (to tone out my annoying in laws). I then had a very small slice of apple pie with cream, and later on had 2 small chocolate chip Cookies. And then later nibbled a piece of the yam cake. So, dessert is where I was really unhappy about my eating :/

On the plus side, the next night we went to my Dads for Thanksgiving dinner and I took all the leftover Desserts (my husband brought home) and left them at his house. I didn't have any dessert there at all either. I was too busy eating turkey and sautéed garlic string Beans lol

Long winded---oops

I'm amazed you had the energy to cook all that so soon after surgery! I was exhausted while on full liquids. How many people were you cooking for on Friday? I bet they were happy.

Yes I too felt better when I cooked for my kids. It was as though at least that part of our lives hadn't changed.

That sounds like a lot of cooking. I'm struggling with quantities in my every day cooking we eat so much less than we used to, that most of my appliances like crockpots, pressure cookers etc are too big for two sleevers. I ended up buying smaller versions so I didn't over cook. It takes some adjusting all right.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
