String Coming From My Incision Site?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks banded and my incisions are nicely healed so I have been putting Vitamin e oil on them and while massaging I noticed a tiny bump. I looked in the mirror and sure enough there was a piece if rope-like thread in the corner where my skin has healed around it. Probably no more than 1/8 of an inch. Has anyone else had this? I'm not sure it is supposed to be there ... I did trim it with a small pair of scissors. My fill is next week, if its still there I am going to have them check it out.

I didn't have any strings and I would call my Doc to ask , just to make sure what it might be as I would have not want to mess anything up , so please call your doc so they can look to make sure everything is o k and they can look.

It is a stitch, nothing to worry about. It happens frequently and will degrade.

Good luck on your first fill.

As AJ said, it's just a stitch that didn't fully dissolve and is now working it's way up. Either it will slowly come up the rest of the way or dissolve. Your doctor may even just remove it with a tug.

I've had that happen with two different surgeries. It's more common than people realize.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
