Lap-bands in the family!

Recommended Posts

Now my sister is getting a lap-band too. So that makes me, my mom, and my sister to get lap bands in my family. Is there anyone else that has had lap-bands in their whole family?

I LOVE MY BAND!!!

Yup, I was banded on the 2/14, and now hubby is jumping through the hoops for his surgery.

Somewhere there is another post about family banding, here.

My aunt is getting one this summer. My mom was not very supportive of mine but has been great about my aunt. She says I will be great support for her. I told her I would be great support because I have had to overcome her being so judgemental. ~Mandy

My mom and I are both being banded by Dr. Cywes in Jacksonville FL on 4/2/07 :-D

She's scheduled at 7:15, and I'm right behind her at 8:30 :clap2:

My dad was going to do it, but he needed surgery on some nerves/muscles in his neck area (he's in surgery right now in fact), so he postponed his for the moment (he's lost 40 lbs just by supporting my mom and eating only what she can eat though! So he may not end up needing it!). My hubby doesn't need it. My sister (who is the person who introduced us to the surgery 3 years ago) was trying to get it done, but she's 10 lbs too LIGHT to qualify for insurance coverage and she said it's not worth putting those 10 lbs back on after working so hard on weight watchers to lose the 40-50 she did lose on her own. ((i don't blame her though)).

AND We have a lady at my church who is in the 6 month doctor supervised diet part of her insurance approval. So it's all over the board with me :-D

We could start our own support group in the family :-D LOL

Me and My wife went from Chicago to Monterry MX 2 1/2 years ago. On the same day we both had surgery. We had lost weight before surgery, but lost much more after surgery. It was awesome to do this with my best friend. I have seen Debbie go from a size 30 to a size 12. I am so proud of her, but I was proud of her before surgery. It is like being on a honeymoon after 22 years of marriage. I know thats TMI.

Frank, that is so nice to say, it sounds like something my husband would say. How did you both do with recover, considering you were both done on the same day? Did you make contingencies in case one of you or both of you had problems?

I am happy for you, and you both deserve it.............

We have a chicago group that meets for lunch once a month. We meet around Naperville or Oak Brook, you are both welcome to join us. There is a Chicago Friends thread in the Illinois section where we make the plans. ~Mandy

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
