Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery

What's a pommy???? All I can think of is pomegranate and pretty sure that ain't right!!!

That's what it is from. It is what Australians and New Zealanders (and maybe South Africans) call British people because their faces tend be red. I think it might have started with sailors and their chapped sunburned faces. It is a(very mild) insult.

It is purported to mean "Person of the Motherland" or (especially in Australia's case!) "Prisoner of Her Majesty". The pomegranate one is a common one also. No one really knows. But POMs are British people living in the colonies (originally Australia, NZ and Sth Africa).

I don't take it as an insult at all. I think it used to be derogatory (like 100 years ago) but not any more.

I was always taught it was a bit of both.... Red skin in the sun like the pomegranate, but also Prisoner Of Mother England, because of our convict roots. Mind you, it was the convict descendants who called the newly arrived "10 pound Poms"** the dreaded POMMIES! It was certainly intended as an insult well into the 70s in Oz... as I know too well from personal experience.

**(immigration program of the 1960s favouring UK immigrants)

My mother used to insist that we children defiantly said back "Rubbishing Colonials!", but you know that never really made the grade in the schoolyard. Falling about laughing was not the effect I was after. The Queensland (state) strine (think Crocodile Dundee accent... forget the hat and knife if you would) followed quickly as a self defence mechanism. Ahhhh... the memories.

And all this time we thought we were just constipated post op and now we know it was the staples clogging us up.

As for the topic not worth debating? I think the debate is long over but the comedy is long lasting. lol the poor surgeon in Spokane has quite the reputation now

No no....you won't see the staples. The really advanced doctors use staples too small to see. From the worlds smallest digestible stapler.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
