Recommended Posts

I start my two week liquid diet monday. How do I get though it? I know its going to be hard. The shakes they gave me to drink are so nasty :/

My advice is to just do it...Its the worst thing ive ever experienced in a very long time but its just one of those things....Its only a two week deal...get over it and just do it...

Im on my 3rd day of pre-op liquids and its just a mind set. I thought it would be a lot harder than it is. Im surprised how well i am doing. Although i almost threw up on my way home the other day from the nasty shake...lol. I think you just have to look at it as though this is one more step in the process. Good luck with everything. :)

shake world definitely gets easier after the first couple of days. Surgeons have different requirements, but I also used broth with spices, etc. And Popsicles -- helped to change things up. Teas. Drank lots of Water to flush out my system (I add a splash of unsweetened cranberry to a 32oz. jar of water and a capful of aloe Vera). And by the end of my two-week pre-op I had four or five different shakes to choose from. The goal is to shrink your liver -- I was happy to drop some weight before the surgery as that is weight I won't be seeing again. Good luck to you -- try to stay distracted. And if you can walk, even a bit at a time, that is such a great way to prepare your mind and body. It will really help once your band is in to walk, walk, walk and starting now will set all of that up ahead of time. Best wishes -- I am day five post-op and so happy!

yes its hard but you wanted to have this sugery, so do whatever you need to in order to have it done..that is what my ole man told me on my pre op....as roja said, use your free options..sf popsicles saved me...i truly believe the first 4 or 5 days are the worst...and then its not so bad..

you wont starve

you wont die

and you are mentally more stronger than you give yourself credit for

Will your surgeon let you try different shakes. Mine let me have what ever shakes I wanted as long as they met certain guidelines. As others have said, just suck it up and do it. It'll be worth it in the long run. After surgery the diet isnt so hot either but it keeps getting better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
