My body is protesting....

Recommended Posts

I started my liquid diet on Friday. On Tuesday I had what I can only describe as a gas bubble, I was in such pain I thought I was going to die. I haven't eaten anything since only Water and tea. I'm so sore I don't even want anything. On top of that I'm still having gas. Which I don't understand because if I'm not putting food in Why am I having gas. Also I have a metallic taste in my mouth and I can smell everything. Last night I could smell the soap that was used to wash my water glass I could hardly finish my water.

Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? I'm worried because my surgery is on Monday.

Gas-X works very well, especially the strips that dissolve quickly in your mouth. They are individually wrapped so you can carry them in your purse for sneak gas attacks. Whether or not they help with the gas after surgery (used to inflate your midsection to give the surgeon room to work) versus intestinal gas is a subject of debate. For that, walking and walking some more seems to be the best solution. Good luck!

Agree... Plus remember when you drink big gulps or use straw, you are swallowing lots of air too... This may make gas pains worse...

Are you sure its not hunger pains

I don't think it's all hunger. I actually feel kind of Sick to my stomach.

Do you think you might be coming down with a case of pre-op nerves or maybe the flu?

We all get the jitters before surgery and for some that means tummy troubles as well.

If you are drinking a Protein and it isn't an isolate it could be causing IBS. When I first had to start my liquid diet with my band, I spent days with severe pains in the lower intestine. I spoke with the nurse prior to surgery, and this is basically what she told me that happened to some people. In my case though it was mixture of a medication I was taking mixed with the protein. Eliminated the medication and I am fine, unless I drink to much.

I know you've had your surgery but I decided to bump this because I'm having the same issues. But, what I can gather is the sensitivity to water & smells is just your body's response to the liquid diet & going w/o the usual types of food/nourishment. Basically, it's in shock. As for the gas it's like a balloon being deflated. The gas has been trapped inside of our bodies for some time but caused bloating because of our regular diet/eating habits kept it bottled up in our colon like the end of the balloon. Then the extra fluids & pre-op diet allowed it to flow out & just let go. Need I say more? lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
