Stuck and Frustrated. ..

Recommended Posts

I am really glad to see this posting also. Was doing really well after surgery on 10/28 and now have hit a wall. Have not lost anything for last few days so appreciate all the great thoughts here. Like someone else said, did not do this for 12 lbs so will have to be patient. Went to my first dinner party last night - brought my Protein Shake while everyone else ate. I put it in a wine glass and after dinner conversation started - it was not an issue. I don't get hungry so was not a problem to watch everyone else eating what smelled like a delicious meal. One step at a time is my mantra.

WildChickie, have you measured yourself, many people find that they may not lose lbs during a stall but they do lose inches.

I have not done measurements but I can def see the difference in the fit of my clothes for sure. Every day I see my body changing. Dont understand how that can be if the scale isn't moving....

This might help:

http://bamboocorefitness.com/one-pound-of-fat-versus-one-pound-of-muscle-clearing-up-the-misconception/

The shorthand is that muscles weigh more than fat (which is obviously silly), but muscle sure takes up less room!

Have faith!

Just wanted to share my experience briefly. For whatever reason, my pattern the last week or so is that the day after I see a significant drop (anywhere from 2-5 pounds) the next day, the scale goes back up to where it was or close before the drop. So instead of stair steps, my plotted "chart" has a bunch of jagged lines. Then it seems to take 2 days or so to stabilize again at the lower weight.

The overall trend is down, and that's all that matters. It could be really disconcerting to just take all of those weights individually. I've decided that right now, this is just how my body is adjusting to the big changes.

Sometimes I get on the scale and it doesn't move for a few days. My first instinct is to get frustrated, then I realize....I HAVE changed everything about the way I eat.....then I tell myself....the weight WILL come off. Sometimes I don't go #2 for a couple of days. I blame it in that. Lol. I am doing my best to get in enough calories so my body doesn't think it is starving. Water is critical for our weight loss. If I'm not losing I drink til my eyeballs float. The weight is coming off slow and steady....that's the way it should be. Huge drops in weight is not what we should expect. Oh did I mention that the monthly visit from Aunt Flow can trigger water retention? Lol. Anyway....let's all commit to only weighing ourselves no more than 3 times a week. :-). Best wishes everyone! We are our goal weight!!!

It happens to most of us, it stinks, it's frustrating, but just keep plugging along, you'll work through the stall.....Like MichiganChic, I chart out my weight in excel.......with the monthly stalls I've had since August, it's reassuring to see the overall downward trend in a chart.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
