Am I the only one that thinks about surgery, my new life, what it will be like after surgery, etc....ALL day long?!?! Is this normal? I have never had any type of surgery, heck I've never even had an IV, so maybe that's part of why my thoughts always drift to WLS. I can't seem to turn my mind off from the entire process!

I think about my new life and weight loss. I think about how much energy I will have and about my health being better, but most of all I think about is what my children (17 and 19) will think of me. They have never seen me less than 200 lbs.

I do think about it ALL day long. There were times, especially in the beginning when reading sooo much new information on here, that I sometimes forgot and thought I already had it! lol

Well, you're having major surgery, and it's non-reversible. I think that's pretty normal.

After a while, you become used to the new way of eating as "normal" and then it doesn't occupy your thoughts as much, or at least not for me.

Yes it happened to me too. All thoughts led to my upcoming surgery. Once I had the surgery and got back to work (I stayed home for only 10 days!) the obsession seemed to subside. Now I actually sometimes forget I had the surgery! Unless of course I eat too fast or don't chew enough...then I get reminded real quick!

Yep, happened to me today after lunch. I was driving to the county lockup to visit some clients and had just had some lunch, and scarfed it down too quick....I had to stop at a gas station to get sick. I still sometimes make those mistakes. It's a work in progress.

I am so glad I'm not alone. Every bit of down time the surgery is all I think about. I am waiting on my insurance approval (by Wednesday) and I feel I am going mad with anticipation.

It was certainly all consuming. .. going back to work tomorrow. . Back to normalcy. I love the restricted diet right now (purees). It's kind of like wearing a uniform to work... I never really have to worry about what to eat and food is no longer controlling my life

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
