1 month post-op and more tired now

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Oct 1st and have recovered really well. The issue I have though now is I stay really tired more tired now then I did immediately after surgery. I have lost 22lbs. I do have trouble getting my Vitamins down some days I can't take them at all because of them making me nausea. Is the fatigue normal even at this stage??

Yep. It gets better. I switched to B12 injections once a month as I have a problem getting all my vits and meds down, too. 22 lbs. in a month is great! Congrats!

I can usually get my Vitamins down, I had mine 10/1 as well, but what I have issues with is getting all my Water in and my Protein. I can not handle the shakes since surgery. Zofran is my bestie! I am pretty tired as well, I wear down quickly and get very dizzy once I hit that point.

Protein protein protein!!! And Water too. Fatigue is likely attributed to lacking of these two things. Keep working on your Vitamins and check in with your surgeon.

Go to your personal physician and have them test all of your Vitamin levels, especially the B Vitamins, Vit D3, Iron, sodium, potassium and thyroid. At one month post op I was just starting to get my energy back. Sounds like you are low in something.

This is what I am terrified of! I have to go back to work two weeks after surgery. I hope I don't fall asleep at my desk!

I had blood work last week and haven't heard any results just yet. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm 5 weeks out. The last 5 days I have had more energy and feel normal again. Get the protien in whatever way you can. Congrats to all of us for making a commitment and changing our lives. I am very excited and going to a nutrition class next week to get all the tools I need to be successful. Surgery was 10/9. Total lost with 12 days preop is 31 pounds total. I also use myfitnesspal to log in all foods and exercise. It is the easiest tool and has almost all foods I eat in there logs calories and protien so you can get all nutrition in.

My sleeve is in 2 weeks! I'm nervous. How soon do you all think I should feel up to going back to a desk job?

I had my surgery done October 7th, so I'm five weeks out and I have my good days and my bad days. I am down 50 pounds and I have noticed that Protein intake really does effect my energy level. The days I do good with my Protein my energy level is a lot higher. I take three Vitamin B12 sublingual that just dissolve under my younger and are cherry flavored. Don't skip Vitamins, I do Centrum chewables. Hope this helped ;-)

Moni~ It can vary from person to person but of it is STRICTLY a desk job id say a week. If it's a desk job plus a little more then I would say two weeks. If I had a desk job I would have gone back a week after surgery. Hope this helped ;-)

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
