People With Low BMI

Recommended Posts

Would love to see a section for people with low BMI that is having the surgery.

Thanks!

That's hard-- what's going to be the definition of Low BMI- normal, overweight-- where is the cut off. "Low BMI" is less than 18, For this forum it would have to be set midrange of the overweight category 28-30. Success is individual dependent. No one can predict percentage or success rates since its so Variable.

I was going according to when my insurance would cover the surgery which is 35 with one comorbidities. I don't know of any insurance that would cover the surgery if your BMI was any lower. :)

I thought a low BMI started around 30. I have talked to two doctors and both said I needed to have a BMI of at least 30 in order to have the sleeve. Now I realize in the "real" world this is not a low BMI but on this forum it would be. I guess we understand that a low BMI is the lowest BMI you could have in order to qualify for surgery.

I agree, that's so variable !! Self pays aren't subject to that. 30 seems reasonable

Hey everyone! Since the forum has changed its style, I have tried to post on the low BMIers page to no avail. Sorry about that. I am trying to get technical advice, but haven't heard back yet. As far as low BMIs go, my surgeon and my insurance require a 35 with comorbidities, although I know a lot of people find the Mexican surgeons to be a lot more liberal with their requirements.

I can't seem to join the low Bmi support group :/

I am 5'6", currently 240, 38.7 BMI I called my PCP office and figured out I was 245 5 years ago. , so 39.5. My weight has been usually in the 230s during that span. I currently have high blood pressure and that began with my sons pregnancy 4 years ago. So I am not sure if my insurance will cover WLS for me.

I think the Hair loss is due to hormone changes in the body. 4 months after pregnancy, many women lose hair. (I know I did) SO I doubt BMI has any effect on it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
