March '07 Bandsters Union

Recommended Posts

Hi Meli,

it's a bit of a pain coming out of hospital heavier that when you went in isn't it? Never mind - just looking at your ticker, you have lost an incredible amount of weight, yet are really only beginning your band journey too. How's week 2 faring?

Yes it was hard to see the scale go up :)

I lost 54-56lbs depending on when I weighed in before surgery.

This morning I'm down to 260, so I'll take it :D I'd love to lose some more though.

So week #2. Lets see - I woke up to some thrush :D

I'm still having intense pain in my lower stomach which according to my dr is from where they put the instruments in. I'm sick and tired of Clear Liquids and so grateful my nutritionist gave me permission to have some Protein supplements! Besides that the port is ok, and my incisions don't hurt - just some itching :D

Hi

I need assistance - I am not real computer savy, I am trying to get my ticker to appear in my signature, but it's not. I've copied the HTML, but don't know how to get it to work. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance for help

please do not be discouraged!!! When was the last time you lost 21 lbs in two months, if you are anything like me not often. This is a life long change. I too am self pay and I think it is one of the best decisions I have made (besides returning to grad school). I only got banded 3/27/07 but seem to be doing fine so far. I have been monitering this site for months and have read many different stories. Most of the experts agree that everyone loses at a different rate and GOOD protien is the key to feeling satisfied. good luck

yep-I was pretty bloated after and peed every hour. Other than that I feel great. I even had extra surgery because the the Dr found I had a pretty major hernia once he opened me up. I also found I actually felt better the less pain medicine I took. Once the major meds got out of my system and anesthesia left my system I felt a lot better and it has only been three days. Now I only take liquid tylenol.

Eww - sorry about the thrush, there's an annoying thing you just don't need!:phanvan

Well, day 3 today for me. Incision pain is very minimal - I just take the paracetomal regularly & I'm fine - getting the odd little taste of itchiness though. Have woken up very uncomfortable & tight though, feeling like I have a corset clamped around my chest - I figure that this is probably a build up of gas as I feel like I need to do few large burps, however, nothing is moving. Everyone else go through this one too? Am very uncomfortable & have been walking around & am about to have some peppermint tea.

Catie

It seems we had our banding the same day. I too felt bloated and I did take a while to get things "moving", but I feel fine today. My dr says the bloat feeling will go away and to go for a walk, even if it is just around the house to help it go away. Good luck to us.

Day two post-op- I woke up feeling like a human being again instead of roadkill...

I was able to get out of bed without help and took a shower- ahhh...

Was thirsty and able to drink a lot of Water and crystal light today, gonna make some broth for later.

Pain in the incisions is pretty noticeable, but certainly manageable with the roxicet. :)

Hi Jono - I was actually March 28th, but given the time diff (Auckland is a fair way ahead of the rest of the world!) - we were probably in surgery at the same time! Good to hear that you & Cascadian seem to both be doing well.

I've popped on and off the treadmill for very slow walks a couple of times this morning & although the bloated feeling hasn't gone, it has diminished just slightly. I need to remember to breathe deeply too, which the surgeon was quite adament about.

At this stage, it is certainly hard to imagine going about daily life without being conscious of this thing inside & how you feel different. I presume that that day does come, experienced bandsters?

Hi everyone,

My name is Lisa and I was banded on the 21st March 2007 in Rockhampton Australia. I was on the liquid Optifast program for the 2 weeks prior. Nasty stuff that lol I was relatively pain free following the op and was up and about within an hour of returning to my room. I've had 3 c-sections so maybe i'm seasoned lol I went home the next morning and apart from wanting to feast on our pet budgie and anyone else that steps within range, I'm doing great!! I know that this hunger thing will pass and if it gets too bad I make a cup of Soup and come and look through all the before and after pics on this site. VERY INSPIRATIONAL. I started this life changing journey a VERY unhealthy 136.2KG and as of day 10 I'm 126.1KG. I'm very happy with that. I am getting my first fill in a few weeks and am looking forward to that so much i'll even stick the needle in myself lol I have a wonderful supportive husband and family who tell me they are on this ride with me. I ate whatever I wanted for the first 37 years of my life and look where that got me...now it's time to get myself healthy again. I'm well on my way!!! Good luck everyone!! Lisa

Hey Jason - so sorry to hear of your "complications" (for want of a better word). That is scary stuff - good to hear that you are through it all though & hopefully onto a great recovery.

Lisa - you go girl! I'm downunder too in NZ (am an Aussie by birth though). Stay in touch won't you?

lilnena - think the Fluid bloat is over - yay! Weighed lighter today than when I went in to hospital, so that is encouraging.

Ibelieve in magic - hope recovery is going well for you as well as for Cascadian & Jono & all the other March bandits.

Well, my update - after posting yesterday I actually came down with high temps, so after ringing my specialist, went to a local medical centre & was checked & put on antibiotics. Temp has certainly settled now, however, any antibiotic seems to give me an upset stomach so that isn't pleasant. On the other hand, it is Sun morning here in NZ & apart from some port-site pain, all is really good & I am about to jump in the treadmill to do a slow meander for a little while to get the blood moving.

Will check in later & see how everyone is.

Cheers,

Cate :)

Hi cate,

Any time I'm put on antibiotics I get upset stomach and that lovely thrush. I then was told by the chemist to take inner health plus tablets and I have never suffered again. Not sure they have them down there?

I sure hope you feel better soon. Take care and we WILL stay in touch. Good luck!!

:)

Lisa

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
