Skalleywag - I've been thinking of you - just checking in on you to see how you're doing. Has your doctor offered anything in the way of a plan forward?

Doing ok I guess. Gathering all my paperwork and working on a appeal letter. I have been doing research on my comorbidities and have found some very interesting information. I have found I am not really a candidate for cholesterol medication since I have had a complete hysterectomy and am in menopause. Studies show women put on meds have a 71% chance of getting type 2 diabetes ! and that my LDL is only at 174 which is high but not high enough to recommend meds. So I am putting all this in my appeal letter and we will see what happens. Thanks for thinking of me :)

Wow. - I didn't know that statins were contraindicated in post menopausal women. I am definitely asking my PCP about that as he reduced mine but didn't eliminate it. I am glad you are working on an appeal. It really is worth it for your long term health and well being. I truly wish you the best.

I too have BC/BS of Illinois. I was denied the night before my surgery. My Dr.s office called them multiple times and they never called him back, so the surgery was cancelled. But the third day the ins. Dr. did call and when they talked the ins. agreed to pay. So now it's done and I am so thankful! Keep pushing!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
