I didn't get hungry until day 7, which was great. Enjoy not being hungry and stay hydrated and walk as your stomach heals. Keep taking your meds as needed. Congrats on your band. :-)

That's great to know! I love being able to say "I'm not hungry!". Lol. I've been drinking plenty of Water, I just have trouble getting up so often to go to the restroom. So I'm definitely getting my workout. Lol. Thank you! :)

Good luck! It'll be nice to have someone who is going through it the same time as me! I hope it goes well and you get plenty of rest!

Well day after surgery. Feeling pretty good. I had one minor complication during surgery but all is good. Has anyone else had a problem getting the 60 grams of protien down the first week?

I have. I had surgery Thursday and can only take a couple sips of chicken broth and only a few sips of my Protein shake. I just have no desire to eat. I hope you're feeling better!

Congrats on your band! I'm very sore, too. So I take my pain meds like clockwork so it will make me sleep and I don't have to feel the discomfort. Hopefully we won't be as sore in a couple days!

Well the first few days were great! But now I'm so nauseous and I have this pain in my chest like something is stuck. I just wish it would go away :(

Try some gas-X, might help a bit. It will only help with the gas that you have absorbed back up already.

I've tried gas-x but I think it's the carbon dioxide used in surgery. Thankfully this morning it hasn't been so bad except when I drink something. It's just so miserable. :-/

I had my band put in yesterday and got home from the hospital mid afternoon yesterday, so I have been home about 30 hours, so far so good. There has been pain for sure, but it seems to be more pressure from the gas than anything. Trying to get in enough Protein will be a challenge when post op instructions are to only drink a few ounces per hour, and you also need to drink Water to stay hydrated. Sipping a little Powerade Zero for variety. Biggest discomfort is getting out of bed, when I try to stand it feels like I have gone a few rounds with Rocky, who always went after his opponent's abdomens. :-). Once I have been up and walking, it gets better.

I am sure that, as others have indicated they experienced, I may hit a wall. But so far it has not been bad. I hope it continues!

I'm a week post-op and just today felt hungry for the first time. I didn't even come close to getting my Protein in last week but I walked, stayed hydrated, and feel just fine! I'll focus more on nutrition this week!!

Hello there

It looks like we had the LBS at the same time :)

I am having the gas pressure also, Gasex tablet really helped me with that (you have to chew them into powder & have some Water with them)..

I stopped taking the pain meds since this morning & planning to take as little as possible (as pain meds make your bowel really lazy)..

I am also walking as much as possible as walking is not as painful as getting up, laying down, etc.. & it helps with the gases..

I wish you [we ;) ] get better soon..

Keep in touch..

FJ

Thanks, firasjs, nice to know someone is in the same place I am with post op! I too stopped taking pain meds this morning, did not feel I really needed them, so we'll see how that goes. Coughing a little more today with a little mucus, but even that does not hurt as much as I thought it might, I think it hurts my wife more watching me cough as she assumes it must be painful!. Gas also seems to be going down, my tummy looked like a Buddha statue when I first got home. Taking my Vitamins, trying to get in my Protein via Protein Shakes and Isopure clear protein and staying hydrated. Nothing discouraging so far. For those considering or planning the procedure, I have experienced nothing discouraging yet.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
