How much weight do you have to lose to change a size?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I just wondered how much weight you guys have to lose in order to change a size. I think that I have now changed sizes, but it took 31 pounds! I would guess that the less you need to lose, the less it will take to change a size. I'm itching to get rid of old fat clothes and get new spring stuff.

Ha, good for you annieM. I have gotten rid of a lot of fat clothes and don't miss even one item.

I once HEARD that one size = 10 pounds. But for me, I am down 60 pounds and have only gone down from a 20 to an 18. I guess my 20's were tight and now my 18's are loose, but not quite ready for my 16s.

I also agree with you that as we get smaller that a size will equal less poundage.

Good luck and yes, get rid of those too big clothes, because you WILL NEVER need them again.

Don't forget that you can actually gain weight and lose a size, also. Working out increases muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. You can lose inches and gain weight.

When I lost weight in the past it took about 20 pounds for me to go down a full size and wear it comfortably. I am not someone who sausages myself into my clothes either! Maybe it is because I am so short?

See now there is a good point. Height. I am almost 6 ft tall so a 10 pound loss on me might look like a 20 pound weight loss on someone 6 inches shorter than me....hmmmmm, good point.

Hi ladies,

Just a thought, I have met some great people locally (which is how I got on to this site) and we are passing clothes along as we are done with them, since I will no longer need them and someone in our local group might need that size for a short time.

We are trying to work on a clothes swap type of thing to help people instead of giving them to a "second hand" type of place that will charge people for good clothes.

My first size took 40 or 50 lbs. Progressively, each size will take fewer pounds because the same number of pounds will represent a greater and greater percentage of excess body fat. I'm now hitting a new size about every 20 lbs.

When I lost weight two years ago (of course I've agained it all back, plus some) it took about 50 lbs for me, too.

It seems to be about 50 for me too. But I don't wear my clothes tight at all. I have issues with things "touching" me.

If you don't have anyone to swap with look for consignment stores in your area. That way maybe you can make a little bit of money off of your old clothes to help offset the cost of new ones.

I'm lucky in my area (Lexington, SC), because we actually have a Plus size consignment store that I am hoping to take lots of clothes to once I get banded and start losing.

I think it depends where you start and your general body shape. I'm 5'10" and started at 375. Now at 100lbs down I still wear the same size pants though top size has shrunk about two sizes. Gets frustrating at times because I exected the sizes to drop much more evenly than they do.

It took me about 60 lbs to go from a 26 yo a 24 but the smaller I get the fewer lbs it takes. It took me 15 to go from an 18 to a 16.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
