All of my pain was gone by 2 1/2 weeks post op. but was minimal at almost 2 weeks post op. I am now about 4 1/2 weeks post op and feeling like I can do cart wheels lol I can't do them yet but feel good enough to do them!

About how long did it take for the pain at the surgery site to go away? It feels like the time I had bruised ribs. I'm only a week out so I figure I'll still have some pain. I'm just ready for that to be over with.

I'm with you

I am still a little sore, especially if I fall asleep on either of my sides or if i really need to do a big head to toe stretch. But for the most part I feel fine 2.5 wks post.

I did something really stupid last night and ate a piece of cheese. Yesterday was a bad food day and I was up late by myself. I didn't throw up, but also haven't had a bm yet today. Hoping it's not going to be a problem. I threw the rest of the cheese out so I can't make the same mistake again.

Looks like I'm ok despite my mistake. Won't be doing that again.

Sucky thing happened today. I used to hardly be able to eat eggs because they gave me such indigestion that it made my back hurt.

Well, I'm in the stage where I can have eggs. I actually like egg salad so I boiled some eggs and mixed one with some light mayo. It was decent.

Holy mother of indigestion! Guess I still can't eat eggs! It was twice as bad with a smaller stomach I guess. I guess I thought it wouldn't still affect me like that! So much for eggs for protein!

Every time something doesn't sit well my back hurts so bad!

I had deviled eggs tonight and it didn't agree at all. Funny thing is that I have been eating egg/potato salad a lot lately and no problems. Maybe just cause it's eggs by themselves?

If your body only wants to sleep during the say instead of night, then stay up at night and work on getting your fluids in then. You have to work with what you have and getting your fluids in is so incredibly important. You should also see your surgeon/doctor about not being able to sleep with the pain and that you haven't had a BM in so long. Maybe you need stronger pain meds for now or you aren't taking enough of them. The no BM in 2.5 weeks is really concerning though. Please see your surgeon asap.

HI! Its my first post! I had RNY laparscopic surgery on Aug 29. So far its been an interesting experience. I still feel crummy from the surgery and have developed a nagging annoying escalating pain under my right rib, At the post op, they gave me tramadol for the pain so i use it to rest at night. My energy levels are coming back and I spent the morning shopping with the hubster. i have had no nausea at and am still trying to listen to the new pouch and reworked digestive system for clues. Today I got very hungry and i got excited to recognize it. LOL So far no dumping syndrome at all. I have PCOS and Type II Diabetes and have already noticed my feet and ankles are losing those brown spots that are so common for us diabetics. I have dark pigmented skin from the PCOS on the back of my neck and that is also lightening. Its amazing that these changes are happening only 10 days out from surgery!

I very much appreciate hearing from and reading the experiences shared! It is gratifying to know how much in common we all have!

I seem to be having as many good days as bad. I feel great one day, and exhausted and tired and lethargic the next. Maybe I'm doing too much and pushing too hard on the good days. Still being on liquids is taking a toll. My nutrition options are very limited so some days I just don't care and don't bother trying to get it all in. The Protein Shakes I have now make me gag except the hot chocolate and beef broth ones. Milk I can drink. flavored water. But Protein wise I'm totally falling behind.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
