Honestly..other people that haven't gone thru this don't know. I get my biggest support here.

I'm finding that to be true for myself as well. My family eats everytime we get together. It is hard to be around all the foods you love and not eat. So I have been just sticking to myself while I loose the 34 pounds before surgery. I have found it easier to loose the weight that way.

I come from a huge southern family..we always are eating. My coworkers..we were always eating too to socialize. Sometimes it took me eating my

Little bit of Protein in my car til I was heading down the path of eating better within my diet. My friends and family may pretty much all have good intentions but they don't know. Another thing I noticed is the sheer amount of food they put away..I was like that and worse. It changes your perspective. Surgery doesn't help he head hunger or the emotions you are forced to deal with when u can't self soothe by eating. It's a journey but its worth it to me.

I feel that this journey is going to be worth it. I can't live for everyone else or food at that. It's been controlling my life for years. It's time for a fresh start for myself and my daughter!!

I'm divorced. I have been a Foster parent for about 6 years now. I don't want to adopt more children. One is plenty for me. Lol unless I get married again and I'm not a single parent. Then I would consider it. It's hard taking care of a 1 year old at my weight. Maybe when I loose the weight and have more energy I'd also consider it.

Congrats and welcome! Just wanted to say your doing an amazing job! The world needs more foster parents. I use to be that "foster" child and I remember how much of a pain I was. Lived in the system since I was 12 till I turned 21 and maxed out and thrown basically to the streets with absolutely no tools as to how to survive out there! I learned on my own and learned very fast!! I always wanted to do the same, except not babies, I wanted to be a foster mother to troubled teen girls! I remember how lost I was growing up in the system and being bounced around from home to home every time I turned around. I now have a 11 old daughter with Autism, so my plans have been put on hold and who knows if I will make it to that dream or not. time will tell, but at least I will be healthier of I do decide to. My wife and I are having our surgery together on August 19th.

good luck on your journey!

I'm not going to lie it's a struggle being a foster parent. I had my last kids for 4 years. The 4 year old I got from the hospital. She was 2 days old. It was hard to see them go home but I knew their mom fought hard for them. They left in April and they are now back into care. They got taken Friday. So now I have the 2 girls again on top of my 1 year old. I'm struggling with tryn to still eat healthy while being stressed out. I had a slip on Sunday but I got right back on track Monday. I'm going to go weigh in today to see how much I have lost. Fingers crossed I've lost overt 10 pounds now.

Thank you!! I went to a support meeting and they are the ones who told me about this group. I'm glad I have people who understands what I am going through. Because noone around me does. It's kind of like going to war by myself.

Exactly how I feel. Have you had your surgery or do you have a surgery date?? My first appointment was also in July of this year.

No I don't have a date yet. My first appointment was July 5th. I have to loose the 34 pounds before I can get my second appointment. I'm down about 30 so far. I'm working on the last few pounds but its been hard! Do you have a second appointment yet? Do you have to loose any weight before your second appointment?

My first appt was July 3rd. My 3rd appt. Is September 3rd and my 2nd class is the same day. I had to lose 17 pounds and I lost 22. I have to quit smoking so I was required to lose half of 10% of my starting weight. They won't submit to insurance until December so Im hoping its approved and I can get it done in December as well. Maybe not realistic but I'm hoping. Fingers crossed!!

I'm so glad I'm not a smoker! I wouldn't be able not to eat and smoke at the same time. I would go crazy. I had to attend a group meeting and see the NUT. I've done all that so now it's just the weight I have to loose. I was at a plateau for two weeks and I got a little discouraged. So I cheated all last week. But I'm back up now and hopefully I can get the last five pounds off by Monday or Tuesday. Fingers crossed you can get approved quick and get your date!!

I feel so crappy when I cheat. I beat myself up mentally so my cheats have only lasted 1 day at time. I'm scared that will change once I quit smoking this weekend. Glad you are back up now. I'm rooting for you you to get those last 5 pounds off!!! You can do it girl!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
