Those of you that are post op, what has been your experience with Hair loss after surgery? Even though I have read over and over again that 3-4 months out, it will stabilize... It is one of the side effects that I worry about often.

I'm 3 months out and have had no Hair loss yet. That was my biggest pre-op worry.

Add more Protein to your diet and make sure you are taking your Vitamins

I am 10 months out and hair is still coming out. But they say my thyroid issues is causing some of it.

I am not bald, but the back of my hair is thinner than it was before. but I can live with it!

I am 12 weeks out and mine started about 2 to 3 weeks ago. After I Shampoo my hair and brush it, quite a bit comes out. I am constantly finding stray hairs on my clothes. I try not to mess with it too much once I have it brushed (thinking that it will lessen the loss-lol). Hoping this phase does not last too awful long. :(

I have had very little Hair loss so far but I have noticed some strands starting to fall out. I will be 3 months out on July 3rd. My problem is my skin is peeling. I looked up on line and it is caused by dehydration and Vitamin deficiency. (oh no!) Going to call my Doc. tomorrow. Not very good with my Protein. I HAVE to get better. Not enough fluids either. liquid makes my pouch hurt. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm 3 1/2 months post op and about a 3 weeks ago my hair starting the "fall out" phase... My hair was extremely thick like enough for 3 heads of hair!!!! Since this started I get literally handfuls of hair at a time. After I wash it, it looks like a small animal in the drain.... My hair is still thick, although its only about half as thick as it was. I have cried over this because I'm worried I will go bald! My dr. Told me to take zinc and sprinkle unflavored Gelatin in my meals, it hasn't really helped. I'm getting plenty of Protein and Water and taking my Vitamins. They said it should stop in 3-4 months..... Good thing I had soo much hair to start with!!!

This is a huge fear of mine! I'm 5 weeks out and I'm scared that mine will start to fall out. I don't have a lot of hair to begin with and I fear I will be bald. I had asked my dr about this and he said for me not to worry but I know a lot of people who are losing hair...

I'm 3 months post op and mine started to shed about 4 weeks ago. My hair is about 1/2 as thick now. I take all my Vitamins, eat 75 to 100 grams of Protein a day and drink about 75 ounces. My hair seems to be slowing down.

I think my Hair loss is the last thing I should worry about tho. Remember that this is only temporary. I'm actually having fun wearing my clip in weave to get back the fullness and add a little length to the back.

If you can't achieve it.. weave it!

It can be due to the stress of the surgery and may have nothing to do with Protein. My doc said if it's going to fall out, its going to fall out. My hair fell out when in had the lap band two years ago and started growing back after three months of losing it. Now I am almost three months post revision and can see my hair is beginning to fall out again, but I'm not worried because I know it will cone back.

I read that hair loss is called by stresses to your body. These stresses can be events like major surgery, extreme weight loss, severe illness, or even high stress factors in your life. With rny, we have experienced at least two of these factors. Not everyone will lose hair, and of those who do not everyone will lose the same amount. If it's going to fall out it'll start 3-6 months after the stress occurred, continue for a while, and then stop. It is strictly temporary and your hair WILL grow again. If you experience Hair loss there is nothing you can do to stop it, because the trigger is already months in the past. It has to run it's course.

I started taking Biotin a month before surgery (which may or may not help) and I try to get all my Protein each day. I use a gentle Shampoo and conditioner. If you start losing hair, it might be time to choose a new hairstyle that camouflages the hair loss until things reverse. Will I lose my hair? Maybe, maybe not. We shall see. But if I do I will TRY not to freak out and tell myself "this is only temporary".

I had Hair loss. Significant for me to notice but not for anyone else to notice. I did nothing about it as I heard so many mixed reviews on products. It eventually stopped. It was only hair and I didn't stress much. Small price to pay

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
