I am considering RNY and may have to pay for the suregery on my own. Has anyone here self paid and if so how much did it cost you?

9,850 up front and payments on the rest Total 18k. I payed for my sleeve the same way that I will pay for my Rny. Clear balance or credit care are good to look into ;) I'm in Ohio

That cost is not too bad. Did you have any complications?

I had the band, lost 70 pounds, the band slipped and I had to have it removed. I have gained back the 70 pounds. It is very discouraging to me. My insurance covered the band but will not cover RNY. I am in Cincinnati.

I didn't have to pay the full amount, but my insurance only covered 4k. So I took out my student loans for the full year and paid 12k out of pocket. Mine was around 16k and I'm in Arkansas.

I paid $25k in Illinois, where everything is more expensive. Worth every penny.

Thanks everyone. This really helps. I am going to borrow money from my 401K if that is my only option. I am worried the most about any complications that won't be covered by my insurance. Did any of you have any complications?

$22k in DC. (would have been $19.5k but I had to have a band removed as well.) Shop around; another program I'd looked into locally wanted $60k for the same surgery. That kind of difference is fairly mindboggling. No complications here, but I almost ended up having to spend a fourth day in the hospital due to pain, which would have been an extra $1k-ish/day.

Where did you have your surgery?

About $20k in Seattle and that included one night in hospital.

I've looked into self-pay in my area as well (Georgia).

$19,800 at one hospital and $21,000 at another.

I am also very worried about the cost that could accrue from complications that aren't covered. I have to look further into it.

I signed a contract for mine - $9,400 down and then med credit for the rest. Total cost is $17,500 and I'm in MN. I am scheduled for this Thursday and to be honest yes I am nervous about complications and the price going up.

I used insurance, but the total billed was around 20K, in San Antonio, Texas.

I just got my band yesterday. It was 9k total. I'm in south Florida. Doesn't cover complications but does cover 3 fills. Insurance wouldn't cover the surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
