I had bypass surgery on Feb 15th 2013. They also fixed a hernia at the same time. I have my good days and bad although almost everything gets me sick. Very weak not much energy went to the hospital for fluids last week because of dehydration. 6 weeks out I'm struggling wondering if I made the right decision. My doctor says I'm a complex case. Any suggestions to keep from dumping or anything to make my recovery easier.

Protein, protein, protein! It should give you a boost of energy. I had an open RNY 2/14 and haven't really exercised consistently, then had bronchitis. I am 44 and I am struggling with you. I walked and hour briskly today and I feel good. Keep trying .

I am 56 and had the surgery 2/28/13 and also cannot tolerate shakes. My nut had me drink warm tea and stay on puréed food. I also take maloox twice a day and one protonix a day. I am able to eat soft foods now and got in 50 grams of Protein. Feeling really well!!!

Try Voloks Greek yogurt 2x protein and add unflavored protein and flavoring or try Nectar protein they have fruit flavors and others that are good in yogurt or added to milk also Unjury chicken soup is good and there protein drinks have a much different taste and they have a sample pack from Unjury

I am 63 years old and I have been having trouble getting all my water in too. Here it is 11;30 pm and I am still trying to get the last 10 oz of water in. My nutrionist told me to add crystal light to my water to help with flavor. Plan water makes me sick. Dehydation is something we all want to avoid and with spring and summer coming on we had better work at this or we will all be passing out. Protein has also been a problem for me, I have always loved Chocolate but the chocolate protein shakes are so nasty that I have learned to get my protein from packaged protein such as protein chicken soup, tomato soup and hot chocolate. I ordered these from American Bariatric Store.com. If you eat too fast you will dump believe me I had the same problem and have learned to slow my eating way down. Sometimes I am so slow that I need to re-heat my protein soup. Good Luck.

I am the exact same way you are. Surgery date 3/5/13 and have not been able to drink Protein shakes, can't eat anything and now have had diarrhea and vomiting for the past 4 days. Went to the ER a couple of weeks ago and ready to go again tomorrow. It's so frustrating and discouraging I cry all the time.

I am having a horrible time drinking Protein drinks. Just even the thought makes me gag. I Talked to pa at doctors office she said to puts in my yogurt. ... I am very tired. It is so frustrating.. I just want energy.

I had gotten very used to all of the flavors of Protein drinks before surgery, but post surgery they all made me sick. I finally got the Click coffee flavored kind and high protein hot chocolate. I put the Click (decaf still for me) with Water and ice in my magic bullet in the morning and drink it on my drive to work (45 minutes) and I have the hot chocolate (bariatric pantry) in the afternoon. My nutritionist wants me to add unflavored to my coffee to get a little bit more in one drink so I am working on that part. Those are the only ones that I have found that I enjoy. Hope that helps give you a couple of more ideas.

For a little extra Protein, I add a tablespoon of unflavored Protein powder and half a Chrystal light single to my 500 ml bottle of Water. Just another way to help get the protein in.

Not to insult you, but have you tried reducing your portions and then eating more frequently. That is what I have had to do. And my Protein shake is Like a 4-5 hour affair to drink. 16 oz Water with one scoop of protein powder. I even had to use the inspire protein drinks from GNC for two weeks causemaking the shakes like the container says was upsetting my pouch and then i started to bloat a lot. Gas ex helps with that. And currently my portion size is 1 oz for mushies at meal time.

I was given a delicious recipe for a shake im going to share, which tastes great and full of protein.you get three strawberries,2 leafs of spinach,2 blueberries,1 banana,one teaspoon of cream of coconut, a teaspoon of raw honey,1oz of almond milk,2scoops of unflavored protein powder and blend it all.once all blended your getting a total of 50grams of protein and calcium and no fats or carbs.it tastes delicious!!!I drink on it all day.
