Hey all! Just wanted to check in and let you know I'm alive. I have been in so much pain it's unreal. The pain meds were not helping and every time I got up I felt like I would puke. My surgery was Tuesday at 11:45a. The pain is finally better ur I am very sore and moving slow. I think I might go home later today but who knows I'm in no rush. I hope u all did better than I did. Best Wishes to you all (HUGS)

Where are you from? I had my surgery done in San Antonio. I sure hope you are feeling better soon and that this will just be a stepping stone to get you there. We are all certainly thinking about you and pulling for you.

From el paso. Here at the army medical hospital. William Beaumont. The best doctors and nurses. Hopefully in a day or two we will know if the drain they inserted into my lower left abdomen was the right course if action. So far it is giving back a lot of discharge. Now we just need to make sure there are no leaks anywhere. Staying until at least Monday if not longer. I know these situations are very one off and do not happen often... Thank goodness! Even going through this again I would still do the same wls option

Hoping everyone else is doing well!! I must say I am in love witty my food stage! Ice and ice chips!!! My next goal is ale juice! Haha not ale juice apple juice!!!

Yesterday was my 2nd to last day of being on my post op 1 week liquid diet. My stomach had the worse hunger pains all day. Since my honey was off my family ate EVERYTHING delicious. By dinner meal everyone was walking in with subway sandwiches and I broke down and cheated. I made 1/4 cup of cream of wheat with splenda. It went down just fine and I took my time eating but I knew Damn well I wasnt suppose to be.

Back in hospital. After several days of trying to deal with what I thought was just your average pain after surgery I finally gave in and went to the er. Got admitted yesterday. So far cat scans upper gi X-rays' date=' and much more to come. Today is a procedure to add a drain and possibly feeding tube. Will go from there and see if that resolves the issue. There is a leak into the remnant stomach and possibly fissures?? Even after all this I do not regret what I have done. I hope things start looking better soon :)[/quote']

Praying for you

It's funny that you say that' date=' I feel fine so a couple of times I've wondered if they actually did it. I'm 6 days post op. no pain meds since 36 hours after surgery. Having no issues getting in my Protein and fluids. I can't drive but with transportation help have already taken my daughter to the dentist and done some light shopping twice. I initially asked for 2 weeks off but think I probably could have gone back after one. Glad to have two since it falls in with the school break so I get to enjoy the extra time with my kiddos. I did have a sore throat a few days after surgery but I gargled with Listerine and it went away.[/quote']

I know what you mean Amanda. I seem to be losing a bit slower than everyone else though. I'm glad to know I'm not insane. I have to be off work for 4 weeks. I think I could have gone back much sooner, but the hospital I work for is strict about lifting restrictions for nursing staff. How's your weight loss going? I'm down 11 pounds since surgery and 25 all together. I'm not going to complain about that though :)

Glad you are doing well. I know you will be excited to eat something and not just drink.

I thought maybe ale juice was some type of beer and I was jealous for a second ;)

Keep hanging in there. I hope it all resolves soon. Your positive attitude is inspiring.

Hmmm... Define "happy". There's a whole lot of variations on normal' date=' so I'd be willing to bet you're probably ok. Are you feeling bad? Congrats on the gas! It's the little things ;)[/quote']

Well I guess "happy" meant tolerating fluids and Protein. Lol. It's better now. I am almost 2 weeks post op.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
