Hello All! I have been reading your posts for the last two weeks and decided that it was about time for me to join. I have been considering RNY for several years, but always had one reason (excuse) or another to stop me. Well, it's time to take care of myself now! I went to the information seminar on January 29th, immediately made appointments for colonoscopy and mammogram (my sweet dad passed away on Christmas Eve from lung cancer :(. ...had colon cancer a few years ago) so my PCP wants to rule that out for me. I had my 1st PCP appointment on 2/6 and will have blood work results back next week. I also have psych appointment scheduled for early March. I am so excited about the future for the first time in a very long time! My insurance (BCBS Alabama) does cover the procedure and I will have about $400 out of pocket expenses. I look forward to celebrating with all of you as we change our lives for the better! I am hoping for a mid-July surgery date, as I am a Staff Training Specialist with my school district and would like to not have to use up a lot of leave at the beginning of the school year.

Welcome! I am new here as well, and I can tell you that I am so glad that I found this site. Sorry to hear about your dad. That cannot be easy. I am looking for a surgery date in late April or early May. I am using this time to learn as much as I can so I know what to expect. Good luck to you in your journey! I'm sure I will see you here!

Hello! I too am brand new to this. I went to the initial Seminar about two years and decided that the Gastric Bypass surgery was too invasive and made the decision not to have it. I went yesterday (2/9/13) to another Seminar and I think I'm ready now. I have my first appointment with Dr. Halmi on Monday, March 5th.

Hi! I am brand new to this too. Made the decision for myself in January. Went to the Education class on 2/7. I have to have an endoscopy, ultrasound of the gallbladder, psy consult, and meeting with the dietian. Then they will submit the paperwork to the insurance. I am looking forward to this life changing journey. Hope to have surgery around mid May......

I actually live in Panama City. The company my husband works for is based in Alabama so that's how I have BCBS Alabama. :)

I had my informational meeting with my surgeon this evening. The only thing that I missed in the first session with the Bariatric Nurse Navigator was that I was going to have to have an EGD done to check for H. pylori. Is this something that I should have scheduled at the same time as my colonoscopy? It would be ideal to keep the number of times I have to have anesthesia to a minimum.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
