My surgeon is not requiring me to be on a liquid diet before surgery; just a low fat diet the week before surgery. Then I have to fast 12 hours before surgery. I'm wondering why I don't' date=' but so many of you do????[/quote']

I did have to agree to my granddaughter eating with me on them, since she and her mom are staying with us until April 1st. Just a crazy Idea to make it fun for me and easy on others caring for me.

Yes' date=' I'm having laparoscopic.[/quote']

My Surg told me today (he does 200 of these a yr) that the liver lays over the area of the stomach and pouch area they have to create. He says if its too heavy it makes it harder and easier to have perforations, errors, etc. Monday I have Clear Liquids and magnesium citrate flush as well. I had me diet modified to liquid plus one healthy choice meal (cal = 250 or less).

Congratulations, my liquid diet starts 3-3 and my surgery is 3-15. I haven't lost anything pre liquid, couldn't or insurance would not approve me since BMI is less then 37

Hi Everyone!!!

I have a tentative date of 3/26. I am having a revision from lap band to RNY. I have not submitted to insurance yet I have one more doc visit on 3/6 before I can submit for approval. I have completed all other tests required! im not sure what my Pre-op diet will be but i know i will have one! I have a great doc and i am thankful.

I'm excited, scared, nervous and looking forward to time off work. Lol.

I wish you all the best, speedy recoveries and to loose lots of weight!!!!

I know the feeling. I am 5'5" and currently weigh 322lbs. Failure is an fear as well as the excess skin. I plan on staying as focused and motivated as possible. I want to gain my life back and really live.

I'm 5'4" 328... we have similar starting points! I'd love to share our experience with surgery i.e.: ups and downs, losses, NSVs, I think it would be wonderful. I'm so happy there are so many people in this post that we can learn and gain encouragement from!

Did anyone have to do a 6 month, monthly visit with the dietitian for ins? I did and I have to admit that I fibbed my way through the while process (which I had to repeat after my denial). They wanted me to start to get used to eating like I would after surgery. So the outcome was to be that I was not drinking with meals, chewing my food to applesauce consistency, heavy Proteins with low carbs, taking 30 mins to eat my meals etc... the thing is, is that if I could do all of that I would not need surgery. So I told them what they wanted to hear to get approved. Now I am worried that I did not take advantage of that time and cheated myself. I am now really scared that I will not be prepared once this is all said and done. Anyone else feel the same, or go through something like this?

I had to do this six months thing... but how did you "fib" if you don't mind my asking. Lol... I have one more visit on the 28th, and I'm done!!

That's wonderful!! I can't wait to get that call when I'll know for sure... ahhhh this is definitely a nerve wracking experience.

I did the same thing but with my teams approval to keep my BMI up. Now I am coming up with ideas to make sure I don't over eat. I am asking for appetite suppressant for the liquid portion prior to surgery. And I plan on using a childrens tea set to make sure I can put extra on my plates.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
