Doing a 5K..whaaaat?

Recommended Posts

I just registered for my first ever 5K!! I've always wanted to do one and feel like this is the perfect time to do it.

It's not until April so I've got a few months to go, but this is exciting for me. I've never been a runner, but feel confident I can do this!

Has anyone else ever done one?

I've done them, using the C25K app as well. I loved training this way, and I worked myself up to a 10K in one summer. That was a few years back. I'm looking forward to doing it again this year, with less weight on my joints. Congratulations!!!

I'm doing the Glow Run in New Bern, NC in March. Whew...I sure am glad it's at night so maybe folks won't see all the jiggles!

One thing I learned when I was even heavier: Compression shorts. Not only do they stop others from seeing the jiggles, but they also feel good. You don't feel like your fat is pulling on you every time you take a step, they don't ride up no matter what, and they prevent chafing. Cannot recommend them enough. Here's an example.

Do you wear other shorts on top of those?

Depends on your modesty. And on the weather. In the cooler months I wore them under my sweats. In the summer, I wore them solo. (see my photo gallery)

I will be doing the Zombie 5K/Run For Your Life's obstacle course on September 28th in Southern California. I don't know what I am getting myself into but I am sure it will be fun. :)

March 1 I will be signing up for The ColorRun 5K in Charlotte. You wear a white shirt & every K, they shoot color on you so that you' re a rainbow mess by the end. They do these all over the US, ours isn't until October but really looking forward to having fun with it.

I am hoping to do this in Memphis in October! It will be my birthday present to myself! I've never participated in a 5k.

The nice thing about a lot of 5k events is that walkers are welcome. Takes some of the pressure off to know you don't have to run the whole time or at all. :)

I am really hoping to run the whole thing, but good to know there's no one jeering if I decide to walk some.

I've never run in my adult life. I'm going to do the ColorMeRad run at the end of April. I will most likely walk it but I'm going to do it!

I just did my first 5K on Saturday. I had 2 goals: to finish and not be the last one across the finish line. SUCCESS! 45 minutes!

MEEE TOOOO girl. I signed up for the NeonRun in April. Is that the one you are going to do? I am sooo excited but nervous too. That is one of my goals and I hope I will be able to finish it. I know I won't be able to run yet but that just gives me another goal to beat, to RUN a 5K. I am excited for you. We can do this!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
