I'm wondering too.

I've been reading on here and other resources that decaffeinated, tea or coffee, is ok, but it still might have some caffeine, so you need to add more Water. I've also read that the temperature can matter early on and that every doctor's advice here is different.

I had my first caffeine was about 2-3 months after surgery... I had about a 1/2 cup of ice tea, I have gradualy added caffeine but I don't drink that much of it. I am 9 months post op and can have a glass or two of diet ice tea or a cup of hot tea and have no problems. I would just a little at a time and see how you handle it. My suregon was NO CAFFEINE at first but I asked him at my 3 month post op and he said a little is fine.

Why do they not want you to have no caffeine??

Thanks I gave up the caffeine several months ago as I drank coffee about 2-3 times a day and now I have been doing one a week for a treat before surgery. I am also drinking CAFFEINE free tea and decaf in my shakes, but wondering when we can have a Luke warm cup after surgery. I like room temp water and stuff so hoping to do decaf flavored tea

I was allowed decaf right after surgery. I couldn't handle the taste at that point. I have to admit I drink a cup of regular in the morning now. One vice...

They actually gave me decaf coffee in hospital after surgery

I haven't even had decaf coffee yet...i gave it up about 4 months before surgery...after surgery I could not stand the smell of it! I do have decaf tea tho...that really helps get my fluids in

Why do they not want you to have no caffeine??

More likely to develop ulcers from what I understand..i do believe it may dehydrate you as well??

I drink decaf hot tea all day long. I have trouble with plain water but I can get fluids in with tea. I can only manage a half cup of decaf coffee.

More likely to develop ulcers from what I understand..i do believe it may dehydrate you as well??

Thanks that is what I thought. However, I have seen tons of GB drink caffeine. I don't drink much at all so I am not really worried about that..

I don't think its such a big deal once you're further out but the risk of ulcers in the beginning is high because you're still healing..same reason not to smoke...i have up both for the surgery...I've also dealt with ulcers before having surgery and they can be very painful
