Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

No, there will be no immediate scorching with the WWJD bracelet.. HOWEVER, if you do make a bad choice, a little microchip imbedded in the Bracelet will send a message back to me on my computer that will show up on my screen (I'll be on the Violet thread, so I'll get the message immediately). I will in turn, give the message to DH who in turn will give the message to the one up above and then............ ZAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP watch out for lightning!!!!! So ...scorched?? Not right away, but sooon.. very, very sooooooooooooon!

I'm kind of ignoring that fact---figure if I focus on it too much a plateau is gonna pop up to show me who is boss!!!! LOL

But yeah, I am getting excited, I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined that I could lose 100 pounds, and not worry about regaining it! Talk about your fantasies!!!!

Where we all thin????
:) :) Too funny!!!!
I've been doing a little reading. In the book, Bob Green's Total Body Makeover on page 62 it says "...As you become more active and drink more Water, you muscles will retain water. The primary culprit here is glycogen, a form of carbohydrate that's stored in your muscles and is the main fuel for exercise. The more active you are, the more glycogen your muscles will retain and thus the more water you'll hold on to: Each gram of glycogen stores an additional 2.5 grams of water. What's more, the fitter you become, the more glycogen you store.

This initial water weight gain can be disheartening, but hang in there. Water-weight gain will cover up the body fat losses that you will be experiencing. After a few weeks, you will begin to see the fat loss. And the reality is, this is a part of charging up you metabloism, which will ultimately lead to an increase in your fat-burning power."

So think about it, you are doing weight training and building more muscle. More muscle, more glycogen, thus more water weight. That'w why it is necessary to measure yourself. The very fact that you are wearing smaller sizes shows that you are losing.

Another point he brings up is: "Did you know that your body allows for only about a loss of three pounds of fat per week? Sure, you can lose water and muscle tissue that's how quick-fix diets thaqt promise you'll drop a lot of pounds instantly work, but you don't want to. ...but in general losing one pound or even a half pound a week means that you aare losing in a way that can last."

A added more grains to my diet and seem to be more regular now. My weight loss may be a little slower but I know I'm healthier and I'm down 2 sizes. In fact I measured my neck last night and have lost 1-1/2 inches in a month. Now that's what I'm talking about!!!:clap2:

OMG!!! Would you PLEASE post this in the exercise AND general forums?? This question must get asked 20x a day. I've asked it myself!!

...which brings me to a point. There was a time in my not too distant past where I was lifting weights. Oh, I was very enthusiastic! So enthusiastic that I threw my back out after 7 weeks in the program. Well, the point is that while I was working out my weight had massively stalled...the whole time I was working out like a dog! Not too happy, but I stayed with it. Well, then my back went out for a week, then shortly after that went on vacation. I lost 8 lbs in those two weeks!!!....after being stalled for 7-8 weeks! Hmmm. Ya think it was the glycogen leaving my body? YOU BETCHA!

Lucky with the rain!! We've been in a horrible drought for months. I heard we got rain while I was in Vegas (much needed, we have new sod trying to root). We've been using sprinklers like crazy, can't wait to see the Water bill. It looks like we might get rain today, fingers crossed.

Last night, I made a recipe I was reluctant to try. I hate Tomato sauces (ie. marinara.. YUCK), and generally most italian foods. But I kept seeing stuffed cabbage recipes, and one recipe says saurkraut, but they all say to cover it in tomato sauce. I was telling husband about it, deciding how I could tweak it without the sauce, and he said to just try it. So I did. Like I said, we went grocery shopping yesterday (and I got stuff to try the stuffed zucchini which I am making tonight, mmmm) so I bought all the stuff, made stuffed cabbage... wilt the leaves, put ground beef onions, rice and seasonings inside, wrap them like eggrolls, seam down in the pan (lined the pan with cabbage leaves), covered it in water and tomato sauce. It was AWESOME. I loved it. I only made 7 because cabbage is hard to tear apart without ripping..sheesh. Husband and his brother ate 2.5 each, I ate 1, and had 1 left over. I put it in the fridge for lunch sometime this week.. So, for something I hate-tomato sauce-I really liked this recipe. Next time I'll likely use another head of cabbage since the outter layers are only good ones for using.. I have 1/3 of the cabbage left but its the inside parts which don't peel apart.. can make a cabbage Soup out of it, or boiled cabbage.. which I also love!

Today for Breakfast, 3/4 of a frappucino (180c, 8g Protein if I drank all of it), a banana.. I brought a cobb salad (small one) with blue cheese dressing (which I don't like) for lunch.. it was prepackaged so I didn't get to pick the dressing, figure it will keep me from using too much since I don't like the taste very much. Some reason the chef salad doesn't have boiled egg, I don't get it!! Boiled egg is my favorite part of salads.. I tried bringing in my own boiled egg to add to salads, but it's never the same. I miss the McDonald shaker salads, wish they'd bring them back.

For dinner, making the stuffed zucchini with vinagar-ed canned spinach.

I couldn't find the sweet italian sausage, only hot and mild. I don't like hot, so going to use the mild. I've been watching Emeril's cooking show lately.. tivo records them, so at night I watch him cook and it gets me pumped lol. So glad to finally have a nice kitchen to cook in. Last night he made a soft shell crab po-boy sandwhich. I was really confused. He fried them whole, put them on the sub with lettuce/tomato, etc.. like you're suppose to eat the shell and everything? yuck..

Funny about the dream, were we thin?????

I am getting antsy about not having a scale, I know I've got to be losing weight, so I want to see how much.. I want to update my ticker!

I think I will weigh myself at my parents this weekend. That will keep me from weighing on a daily basis, I go there once a week and can do it there.. Hmmmm..

Thanks JennifER for the post about the glycogen.... so I guess I'm going to hit a stall next week but will be amping up my metabolism instead! I knew that you tend to stall or gain when you first start exercising but I didn't know the WHY part.

Laura: For someone who is EXTREMELY picky your are doing great on cooking!

I am reading the book by Khaliiah Ali, about her lapband.... it is a really good book... so many things I've identified with during her life and I'm only to twenties....... I gotta tell you... the dedication made me tear up... it reads:

"To my son Jacob-

and to all the children whose parents have opted out of too many photos with them........ "

This his home with me big time.........

This is what it looks like outside my window at work. It's been raining all morning. Yuck!

Michelle, I've never read any of the Harry Potter books. I see my nieces and nephews going nuts for them though. They must be interesting.

I'm reading Stephen Kings latest, BLAZE. He wrote it in the 70's but only just published it. I went back to my post yesterday and it was all messed up! I wonder what happened?

Laura, your cabbage rolls sounds delicious. I think that's what I'm making for dinner.

We're throwing one of my aunts a surprise birthday party on Sunday. It's supposed to be a luau. I hope it doesn't rain!!

TracyK and Terri, have ya'll ever been to L'barge du Loq or something like that? It's a casino in LA. We always go to the Coushatta but we've seen that one and we've always wondered how it is. We like the Coushatta because it has high ceilings, so then the smoke floats up instead of hanging around in a cloud around your head!

Off to lunch now... Gotta go run some errands. TTFN...

L'Auberge du Lac (I think) -- yes, we went there 2 weeks ago! Had a great time, beautiful pool, great bars & restaurants, etc. The slots were tight as heck, tho. We lost more than a few bucks! We had a lot more fun dancing at the local dance hall in town, "Yesterday's". What a hoot!

I'm back from the gym. Only walked for 50 min. We are expecting a big storm sometime today. :rain: Last year to the day we had a storm and we were without electricity for 8 days. So I need to Iron some things so I won't look wrinked when I go out. (I just hate that!)

Went to Sears and found some workout shoes on sale and picked up a set of weights. The set weighs 20 lbs and carrying them to the car was a chore. Just think we have all lost more than that and that's what we were demanding of our hearts. No wonder I have more bounce to my walk. Try to carry around the amount of weight you have lost for an hour. Betcha can't.

I'll check in this evening if I have lights!

Oh yeah, I have walked 50 miles so far this month!!! Yeah me:clap2:

Jennifer.. you really made me think!! I was hauling 40# bags of top soil this morning and I could barely do it. I counted it as a good workout! And to think I carried that much plus 5 more 24/7! It's amazing when we look back and see what we've done to ourselves!

We've had thunderstorms all day today. My fingers are crossed for clear skies for my garage sale part deux tomorrow!!

Judy, good luck on your garage sale tomorrow. Mine has been postponed indefinetly. I don't know when it'll quit raining here in Houston. I'm in the carwash business so it's really affecting us. I pulled out so much stuff for my garage sale and now it's just all laying around in my living room in boxes. Driving me nuts. I can't put anything in the garage because we store our cars in there but also because nothing else will fit!

I am seriously not looking forward to packing. I'm in moving at the end of the month and have not packed one item yet. Gross. Anyone interested in volunteering to come help me pack? Anyone? You can count it as a workout! :biggrin1:

I guess since I haven't closed on the house yet it doesn't really seem like it's really happening. I'm supposed to close next Friday, then I leave for vacation on Monday, and come back the following Monday. :D I better get my butt in gear.

For lunch I had my version of a 7 layer dip. Half a cup of homemade refried Beans, sprinkle of shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sprinkle of low fat cheese, cubed pieces of grilled chicken, salsa, dollop of low fat sour cream. Yum yum. I'm still full and I ate at one.

TracyK - You lied! :D Oh well, who cares!!? CONGRATULATIONS!

Terri BUSTED ME!!!

Oh well, have you ever just had a feeling that you should get on the scale? something just MADE me do it!! Anyway, I am very glad I did, otherwise if it went back up I would have never known it actually went down...thats my story and I'm sticking to it:ermm

Jenn-No secret on my end. I am sorry that you are still bouncing but it will get better, I promise!

Well, I have loads & loads of laundry to do...so I better get to it!

Haydee-I agree with Terri about LauBerge...nice place, but we have never won squat there. I did really well playing blackjack once, but the slots don't pay. Stick with Coushatta or Delta Downs.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
