Tracy,

I have been following your posts and could not find where you had your surgery. I'm glad I found you again and have your date. Keep us posted. I have my appointment with the surgeon on Weds. the 14th of Feb., but then its the insurance waiting game. I have all of the other requirements done. But I'm sure the insurance company will come up with some reason to deny me. I am so happy for you. I'm sure the wait will go by quickly and the end result will be worth it.

Tracy,

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I'm sure you would be very happy with the results. I will be on pins and needles waiting to hear about your lastest update. I

In the meantime I do have a question for you.

In one of your replies you mentioned that you did not have to go on a supervised 6 month diet. I'm on one now and it sucks being told I have to wait an additional 6 months due to my insurance company rules. How did you manage to avoid it?

Honestly.... ;) LUCK! :rose: .

I did however give them my weight chart, which I had detailed from 2003, it showed almost daily weigh in's when I was hot on the low carb bandwagon... and then months where I was off.., but overall it was NOT required by my determination department. Also on my psych eval I called some local places that were in my network, and they gave me the bs line that I would need no less than 3 sessions, and every test known to man... when I told them all I needed was a LETTER stating that I was of sound mind to make my own medical decisions the office lady became VERY snooty, telling me that SHE knew what my insurance required because they had 3 other people from my employer.... ANYWAY I argued with her and in the end I said... well I just call another BCBS in network provider and get my letter........ She snottily said.. (AND I'll be hear ready to make your appointment when you find out that you are wrong!

Needless to say, I went 20 miles out of town to another psychologist and only had ONE 3 hour appointment and my letter the next week.

Ok, now I'm getting a tad bit nervous!! When I called my insurance, they never said anything about needing a diet history, supervised diet or anything like that. They told me I need a letter from my PCP (got it!!) a letter from the surgeon, a psych eval and a NUT consult (waiting on appointment dates). Now I'm worried that after I submit all this to the insurance they will come back and ask for more information!! (They said they wont make a determination until all info is sent in.)

:faint:

Your Breakfast sounds so good this morning Tracey!!! Keep up the good work and you'll make your surgery weight goal in no time!! :clap2:

mary: I didn't need a diet history.. (SOME don't) consider yourself lucky that yours doesn't.

I am right now eating my lunch and I am so proud of myself....

I'm having a salad with a few grape tomatoes (cut in half) a bit of shredded cheddar, a few sunflower seeds, ranch dressing and thin sliced ham rollups with a touch of cream cheese in the center.

I had forgotten that I can actually eat really delicious things AND be low carb/healthy.... ;)

AND I've got boiled eggs cooling......... If I could pat myself on the back I'd do so LOL

but I will admit, I have promised to make my grandma's "hamburger noodlebake" for dinner tonight, and it contains egg noodles.. I will try to keep my portion SMALL and have a salad with it FIRST

You deserve a big pat on the back Tracey!! With the attitude you have...you'll be a model patient with the lap band!!!

I'm off to find something for Breakfast and start reading the WLS for Dummies book I bought yesterday....Keep up the great work Tracey, and I'll check back in tonight!!

Hey, just to give you some encouragement, check out the April bandsters from '06!! We have a running weight-loss total, but the most helpful for me has been an exercise challenge thread, just for April bandsters. A few of us participate and it has become a tremendous support.

Some of us actually run now, too!!

Congratulations! April is a great month to be banded.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
