Scared! RNY surgery on Monday 12/10.

Recommended Posts

New to this forum. After a long process I was approved for surgery and now it is coming fast, less than 3 days away. I am so scared, more scared than I thought I would be. Afraid to die and if I am making the right decision.I went through this process over 2 years ago and changed my mind before scheduling surgery and then regreted it after doing yet another fad diet that failed again.I was doing really good, looking forward to the surgery, but now worried since it is so close. I have 3 young boys who need me, but need me healthy too so that is why I am doing this. I started at 292 and I am now 272, I am 5'11" tall, in my early 30's. Anyone else extremely scared prior to surgery? Any advice/reassurance? Are you happy you made this choice? I will continue to read this forum all weekend, so happy I found it :)

I was fine with having the surgery, but my has band was scared to death. The day of the surgery he threw up several times that morning. Just relax and take deep breathes.

I will tell you this your first few months are tough, and you need to remember your boys during that time. You did this so you could be healthier to be with them.

I was terrified but even with my complications I got thorough it fine. I had mine on 11/19. I'm only down 18 pounds but I think I've lost inches. Should have measured!! I still have days where I question the surgery but overall each day gets better!!

Lol 8 months out from surgery. Ran the full gambit of emotions prior to the surgery. From excitement to pure terror. Remember to breathe. Now down over 70 lbs. I feel fabulous! It was the best decision I ever made for my physical health! I can now chase the grandson and keep up (he is 2). My greatest fear was he would dash into the road and the lard on my body wouldn't let me save him. That fear out weighed any fear of the surgery. I also go to the support groups! I have people in my life that have also had the surgery. They helped me through!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
