Just Ended Day 3 Of Preop Diet

I'm still starving. I'm tired and a bit shakey. But only 5 more days. My surgery is Dec 4th. I am converting from lapband to bypass.

It will be totally worth it! Hang in there ????

Does anyone know if drinking protein shots instead of shakes is ok? The texture of the shakes make me gag and throw up.

Struggling and discouraged.

I just tried the Atkins advantage protein shake an love it! But they are only 15g. The bariatric advantage is 27g. So I would have to drink 6 of the Atkins to meet 80-120g protein per day. I bet its too many calories and sodium. I'm feeling very overwhelmed.

I'm on day 4 of the pre-op diet. Surgery is December 10. I'm finding the best way to handle the Protein is with variety--some are better than others so I take the good with the bad. I don't mind the Atkins Advantage as much as the Muscle Milk, for instance. I like the Special K as well. Others I'm drinking are Core Power Light, Isopure and Nestle's Boost (both powder with 1% milk) and Slim Fast. I drink a combination of 4-5 per day, which gives me a total of 70+ grams of protein and 1,000-1,200 calories. I like my iPhone app "MyFitnessPal." It tracks the calories and the protein for me so I know if I need to drink the 5th drink at night or can go without it.

Lisa, way to go! Good luck on your surgery NEXT WEEK! Wow!

The premier Protein drinks are 30 grams per drink and they are premade and only 1 gram of sugar. Only 5 grams of carbs and 160 calories. I am drinking 2 a day and also Water and sugar free popsicle's. It's very hard but I have lost 5 lbs so far. 4 more days of the diet to go then it's surgery time!

If u dont mine me asking, why r you doing the revision from the band. Also when are you doing yours? I also am doing the same on 12/12/12. The bsnd has only give minimal success and has caused a host of other issues.

The band has been extremely unsuccessful for me. I only ever lost 40 lbs and have gained it all back. I never felt restriction no matter how many fills I got. I can still eat everything under the sun except for foods that are good for me bc they get stuck. I was banded in Feb of 2006. Why are you doing the revision? I am converting on Dec 4th. I also have a lot of pain at my port site and have a band slippage.

I am on day five of my preop liquid diet I just ate a piece of bread. Shnikes I feel so guilty my belly was hurting me from the ugi I had done today.

Lisa, your story is SO much like mine--I did lose 65 lbs but have gained it all back. I also never felt good restriction even though I had 20+ fills. I was banded in March of 2007. Now I have nausea almost constantly and, according to the endoscopy, my esphogus looks like ground hamburger. I considered the sleeve, but that wouldn't really help my poor esphogus, so I am going with rny on December 10. Good luck on your conversion--can't wait to hear from you when you are on the other side of surgery.

I got down to 198 but I am back at 240 now. Well I'm 233 this morning, the liquid diet has shed 7 lbs so far. I am now diabetic and wasn't when I got the band and I'm praying the bypass will resolve this for me. I feel I need the bypass to keep me from cheating. I need the dumping that it will hopefully provide. I'm also looking forward to finally feeling full after eating small amounts of food. I have a 3yr old and I want to be able to play with her without being out of breath after 2 min. I pray we both do well and please keep in contact! I'm also on Facebook as lisa Zaccone McGowin and my email is lisamcgowin@yahoo.com

I understand mine has only done ok. I still have a ways to go. But its caused acid reflux and such now I am a mess and the band is nit working at all.

Well, good luck praying this goes well and a speedy recovery fod you and all having surgery.
