January 7th. 22 more days. Waahoooo. Have all my Pre Op testing tomorrow. Gonna be 5 hours of testing. Lots of blood work' date='UGI, PFT, Xrays. I can't wait to get that over with. I hate needles. Just wait to start the liquid diet and have the surgery. Lol.[/quote']

It wasn't bad at all, except the crap you have to drink. I don't have to do a liquid diet. Just the day before. St.Vincent in Carmel, IN is amazing. Just gotta do my food class, which is 8 hours long. I can see the finish line. Thank You Lord. Plus it only took less than 3 hours from start to finish with the test

I new here I had lapband surgery 12/2011 needing a revision surgery bc of gerd band slipped hernia band up in my esophagus Weightloss failed

Vomiting all the time stomach sore got a second

Opion said he would do a RNY now waiting on insurance approval

Good luck to everyone!! Happy Holidays

This is scary! My surgeons office submitted my original request for the lapband back in May thinking I'd have a better chance of approval with my lower BMI (I'd requested RNY). I was denied, looking back, perhaps that was a blessing because I have gerd and a sliding hiatal hernia-this could have happened to me. I kept jumping through the insurances hoops and qualified in Nov. I requested the sleeve thinking since my gerd hadn't acted up in a while I'd be ok-got a date for 2 weeks later then had to reschedule for Jan. because of work. Lo and behold, 1 week later, BIG gerd/hernia flare up. Had to call the surgeons office to tell them this time I'd changed my mind about the actual type of surgery. I was scared to get the sleeve. They had to resubmit to insurance but kept my date for Jan-I hope RNY is approved and I get to keep it! If not they said they'd do the band, I'm thinking for sure NOT now.

Thank you for sharing-praying insurance approves the change, I should know tomorrow.

Hi all,

I am not sure if my surgery is going to be in January now. :( My insurance sat on my approval and by the time they finally approved me it was too late for me to get my surgery on the Dec date . So they said the would hold the approval hold the way through January 30th, then I found out my insurance will change from Empire Blue BC/BS to Anthem BC/BS as of January 1st . So I have to get an approval from them because empire will not cover my surgery. I will not be able to submit it for approval until after January 1st. FML.. I am not sure now when things are going to happen. I am still hoping for a January date. Everyone cross your fingers for me. :)

Sorry you're having so much trouble. Seems like there are so many of us that have had to almost beg our insurance companies to pay out the benefits we pay into. Not sure where you live or why you were denied before, but I can say from experience that they will deny you (on my plan in CA) if you are lower than 40 BMI with co-morbs. My plan is BSNV (or BC), which is very similar to Anthem BC/BS and when I met the magical BMI number, it was approved. Am in the process of changing surgeries; sleeve to RNY, so I'm still waiting for that to go through...bleh. My surgeons office isn't the most organized, so I have to keep on them-which is no bueno.

Hope you get very good news very soon!!!

I'm sorry, I think I read too many comments and a few bled together. Hopefully your approval from the old insurance will help the new one decide in your favor. Sucks that they make you wait like that. :(

Yes sorry I was on my phone last night. But yes I found after i had submitted to Empire that our insurance was changing within BC/BS . So my plan is still through blue cross blue shield but instead of being empire blue it is changing to Anthem. I was approved through empire which is what I have now and they even said that they would cover my surgery in January. However when I called I found out that what would actually happen is when i submit for my surgery they would not pay for it because I would then be under Anthem. It is sooo confusing. I have to wait until January 1st and submit through to anthem for approval. for the surgery. Hopefully my surgeon won't be full and I can't get my surgery sometime in January. :(

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
