January Dates

Recommended Posts

Oh' date=' another crazy thing while I'm rambling. How many of us at the start of our journey looked to the future and thought the surgery would never come? With all the hurdles we have to jump through and 3 month and 6 month diets...and insurance and specialist visists...it all seems like a dream now that it's here. Good luck everyone!!!! ~<3 ---<@[/quote']

Good Luck on your surgery and I know exactly how you feel...I'm having so many doubts but like you said I know I need this as well! Keep us posted and your in my prayers!

Can't sleep. It's 12:21am and I have to be at the hospital at 5:15am. Insomnia and nerves and hunger are a bitch! I need to be up by 4:45am. I'm already nervous; I have butterflies! There's a lot of fear of the unknown. How bad will the pain be? How strong am I? Fear of the unknown is what gets people to stumble' date=' but not me. I know I need to do this. Sometimes I'll think in my head, "wow, this is drastic means, do I really have to do this?" And then I think about failed diet attempts since 7th grade, my struggle with eating disorders, my health...and I realize this surgery is an answer for me...it's a way out, and it's the only way. Well, I guess I'll see you all on the loser's bench. Nothing worth having is easy![/quote']

The pain will be pain, u will deal, it will be worth it. Simple as that. Yes its something we all thought may not cone, was just a dream... Here we r, faced to be strong. We will NOT allow this to be just another failed attempt. This tool will be the last we need to make our weightloss successful!! Put all them second thought demobs aside, and know you r doing the right thing and will succeed!!!

Everybody is different. But you really have to start of slow and just drink. Forget those 1 oz cups if you're still using them. Just take a bottle of Water, flavored water and take sips. More sips than every 15 minutes. it has to be more like every three to 5 minutes. Eventually you'll be able to take larger sips/drinks. Just remember the new pouch is like a funnel, water doesn't stay in it long at all. It basically funnels right on through it. So no harm in stretching it.

Had revision surgery on Monday. Just now feeling like messing around on the phone and turning on the tv. Because the revision is more complicated and the healing process a bit different the doc says I'll probably be in the hospital until Thursday or Friday. Im walking often and finally allowed to drink. The dry cotton mouth was probably the worst ever! Hope this finds everyone doing well. Do us Jan. Folks have a post op board? Where can i find it? Don't laugh for the stupid question... Its the pain meds. :) take care and prayers for you guys!

I'm so glad you are doing well. You've been on my mind all day. Has the walking helped with the gas pain?

Glad to hear it went well lovealways! The discomfort is not fun- I feel for you! Chap stick is your friend! They gave me ice chips to help with the dry mouth but the cold cramped my stomach- it was such a tease staring at the ice melt lol! Good job walking! I sure did notice how much movement helped everything ( pain, flexibility, gas and discomfort). Keep it up girl! Put holes in those slippers from the laps!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
