Hi everyone -

I'm from Rochester' date=' too. I'm scheduled w. Dr. O'Malley on 12/17. I had my pre-op today. I guess it's really going to happen. To say I'm nervous would be an understatement. I'm not so worried about the surgery. I've had a few "open" surgeries, so laparscopic seems lke a walk in the park. I'm most worried about things like - what if I don't Ifeel well for the rest of my life, what if you have to vomit and your at work in a meeting, what if you get that horrible smelly gas and your at work in a meeting, or you dump while you're at work. I havent told anyone at work. Actually, Ive only told hubby and children and sister who is physians assistant. I'll probably tell my boss tomorrow. How about you guys? did you tell people? What did you find most challenging when you first got home from the hospital? What did you do to prepare? What didn't you do or have that you wish you did? I'm counting on you to help me prep :) Today I bought Protein powder from the Highland Hosp pharmacy and some Vitamins. These items are at least a few dollars cheaper there and the Protein Powder you can only get online so it saved on shipping too.

JPR - I hope that you are still feeling well and are up and around![/quote']

How did everything go?

So how is everyone doing on there new life? Things for me are going really well. Donated about 12 pairs of pants to the local church the other day. Shirts and shorts are next.

As far as food goes I'm still on pureed. tuna and hummus or mayo(yawn). Cottage Cheese' date=' started Wegmans greek yogart and its went down well but only was able to eat 4 oz. Tried Ricotta with a little sauce and it was actually good. Tonight going to try FF Refried Beans and some FF Sour Cream.[/quote']

Its nice not to fit old clothes

Just a few more days until surgery. A few questions for the Highland Hospital group -- especially those who had O'Malley. Does O'Malley leave a drain in? Were you in for 1 or 2 nights? How many days til you got your staples out? How long were you on Clear liquids before you went to full liquids?

I'm having surgery on Monday and have tickets for the RPO on Friday. I'm really hoping that I can just go and sit there. Is this wishful thinking? '

How were you feeling 7-8 days out. This will be Christmas and we're having company. I just want to know what to expect at that point.

Its diff per patient. I didn't have a drain also everything for me was as we were told. No complications

Hi!

I had an easy surgery.everything went great.when I got home I was a little sore and stomach made lots of gurgling noises.I had No problems with whatever liquid I had except skim milk I tried lite soy milk and it was better. I only was using soy milk right after surgery.I can handle skim milk now.I'm almost 4 months post open and really haven't had any vomiting except when I forgot not to drink right after eating the beginning.I won't ever forget again it was very uncomfortable and painful.I have been able to eat every thing. I'm lucky No problems with any foods! Right now though I have been at alot of plateaus.I'm trying to up my Protein and do some extra workouts. It's not easy.I'm 47 pounds down which is great. I am having a problem with my hair falling out.taking Biotin and upping my protein hope it will help.my next approach at hospital is June 13 2013. Hope to be down even more but seem to be at a stand still.it's a little disappointing but still hanging in there.I haven't had any problems with dumping syndrome bit I try to keep sugars low. I have a terrible sweet tooth it's a big change.I realize that exercising is Whats changing the shape of my body. It's very important to burn fat and not your muscle! Hope everything is well! Keep up the good work and never give up!

I would highly recommend requesting a private room. It's an extra $40 per night but your only there two nights. I just preferred it myself. I've been an inpatient 4 time and I just like the quiet. Everyone on he floor is very nice and professional.

I would suggest private as well I had a roommate who bitched the whole time about how she regretted getting rny and how sick she always was even after ten months then she had her boy friend bring her McDonald's twice and said she could not keep food down. Boy oh boy even the nurses kept telling me they were sorry about my roommate I guess she is there often. I would do private room anytime to avoid that again

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
