No pre-op diet for me either. I was only allowed to consume Clear Liquids 24 hrs before the surgery though.

No pre-op here, either...and mine went fine. It all depends on your surgeon's preferences. My feeling is that I picked him for a reason and I would rather take my medical advice from him than to get all stressed out about the fact that other people's doctors have different requirements.

Best wishes on your surgery...whatever you decide to do re: a pre-op.

I just talked with my Docter the other day and he will have me on a high protien/low carb diet for 1 week before surgery. He said to keep it simple just no bread, potatoes, rice, or Pasta, he said those types of carbs make the liver swell. He said one patiant he had already made an insision and her liver was huge, he had to back out and tell her mother that he couldn't do the surgery that day. The mother confesed that her daughter had eaten french frys right up to the day before???? I have a BMI of 40 and I do know that patiants of his that have a higher BMI have to diet for 2 weeks. Some DR.S must just be more conservative about this issue or less:confused: Sunnysea

I am into the second week of VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) meal replacement- shakes; surgery 14th Feb. My surgeon explained that since he has put his patients on the Meal Replacement for 2 weeks prior to surgery he has had a marked improvement in the incidents of band slippage. Good enough reason for me.

So cool! My doctor is doctor Roslin in the same pracitce as yours. I was looking all over this site for questions about this whole Pre-op diet. I wasnt told to go on one either. I was starting to worry. I still have to go to the sleep study on Friday. Then it is waiting to hear from Empire for me.

Thanks for posting!

I will be banded on the 8th of March. I was put on a ten day clear liquid diet prior to the banding by my Dr. Today is day three, and it hasn't been that bad, but man is it boring. There are only so many flavors of Jello, and that is the most solid thing I have had.

Regards,

Keith

My op is scheduled for next Sunday 11 March and I had to start a pre-op diet 10 days before. I was given vanilla and strawberry shakes and chicken and herb Soup - they are all so tasty so not finding it too hard. Can have fruit and veges too. I have a low BMI but I was told that the pre-op shrinks the liver so easier to operate and also quicker recovery. Amazing how you can stick to strict diet when you know you have to for surgery.

My BMI is only 32.9 but my doc still wanted me to do the pre-op with shakes and Soups as he said it helps enormously during the op if the liver has shrunk and he said it also helps aid recovery. From a personal point of view I have now got used to the liquid diet so my thinking is that I won't find it so hard after tomorrow to only be able to have liquids.

I had no preop diet and no preop testing. Just went to the seminar one night and then scheduled surgery. Then liquid diet for 24 hours, mushies for a few days, and on the solids. Doing fine.

My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of slim fast shakes with 2 cups of either raw or cooked veggies - no fats, no oils, etc. It was pretty easy and I stuck to it and was glad I did. I dropped 23 lbs on my pre-op and it just set the stage for the weeks to come.

Also, my post-op was two weeks of liquids and 2 weeks of mushies... the pre-op got me used to being on liquids and sort of conditioned me. Personally, I'm glad I had them and they just contributed to my success so far!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
