Anyone Around 400 Pounds?

Recommended Posts

Ok guys...I'm attending all the classes and support meetings. I am SUPER motivated to get down to a healthy weight.

Are any of you out there in my same weight class?

I am wondering what kind of long term weight loss I can and should expect...within reason!!!

I don't think I will ever get below 200.

Jeff

I started out my journey @ 415 which was in May...as of today (and today isn't my official weigh in day but I can't stay off the scale) I weigh 343. I had my RNY on August 15th. My surgeon said losing 75% of what you are overweight is reasonable. I am going for more than that. so if you have 200 lbs to lose, realistically you could easily be down 175 by 18 months

Good luck! And feel free to chat

I started at 340 and have lost 120 lbs as of today. Surgery was 02/21/12. Still have 55 more pounds to go. It's doable!!! The guys on here are just doing awesome!!!

I use to be over 420 at one point. Dropped down to about 280 then went back up to like 360 then decided to go for surgery. Started at 335 of pre op week. Day of surgery 320. Now I'm 228. Everyone tells me not to lose anymore weight. I've never been "skinny" so I'm not sure how I will feel if I get to 190. Only one way to see and that is to get there first. Lol

Hey Glenn... Welcome... Just FYI.. Don't stock up on the Protein shakes... Tastes change after surgery... I can't stand the vanilla now it's just too dang sweet. I must have tried at least 30 different kinds before I found one I can tolerate. Surgery not too far away. I know you are getting excited.

Being realistic is important. People rarely lose all of their excess weight after WLS, but it's possible. You do really have to be dedicated, and it sounds like you are. Look at what weight you'd need to be for a BMI of 22 (mid range normal BMI), and subtract that from your current weight. That's a good approximation of how much excess weight you carry. Now multiply that by 0.5 and that's the low end in terms of expected weight loss.

Now multiply that first excess weight number by 0.75 instead of 0.5, and that's a good approximation of the high end of what you can expect.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
