Hi all. I had surgery on July 26th (last thurs). It's been a rough few days & I'm hoping this won't last too long. Does anyone have any suggestions, advice, or words of wisdom to get thru the first few weeks/months?

Being a picky eater, it's really hard to get all that Protein in, but I will tell you... I have already seen how important it is. I'm losing TONS of hair! Since I haven't been able to keep down foods or even Protein drinks and Vitamins, etc., my hair is paying the price. So if you can choke it down, do!

I found at Walmart Protein Shots. They're not the greatest alone, but I added some of the watermelon to a little bit of juice and Water (reduce the sugar) and that helped me get 20g+ protein in one little drink. Each vial has 48g in it so I'm going to be trying pretty hard to get those down.

Another thing I've found is that Carnation Instant Breakfast tastes better than the actual protein powders. If you can handle milk, there's 13g per 8 oz. serving. I haven't tried it yet with soy milk, but I have to use it with Water, because my tiny tummy rejects milk; but when I do that I have to also add some Protein powder because 8g comes from the milk itself. Either way, it tastes better. Sometimes that protein flavor can get to be too much.

I hadn't been able to get any protein in since surgery, but today my hubby kinda put his foot down & said I needed 2 TRY a little bit of a Protein shake. I was lactose intolerant b4 surgery so I only use silk. I had the carnation instant breakfast (sugar free choc) w 1/2 a scoop of the protein powder. I was able to get it down & it wasn't bad at all. I used 8oz plain silk light & just sipped it till I finished it off. Not bad at all! The total protein from that shake was 24g. I figured if I can get 2 of those shakes down for now...I'll be getting close to what I need. Maybe eventually just start adding a little protein powder to foods once I move on to that stage.

Try to get your Protein in at every stage. I had a problem to but switched to syntax nectar and just added crystal light flavorings to make them go down.

Yep! That's exactly what I did. A package of the sugar free chocolate Carnation and 1/2 scoop of chocolate protein powder. It takes a while to get it all down, though. I got the unflavored protein powder to add to cream of wheat and mashed potatoes, but it can be kinda gross depending on what you add it to. I've been told that BeneProtein is the best cuz it doesn't add as much texture or flavor.

I think that's the biggest problem I have... texture. I'm going to have to look into the BeneProtein. Thanks for the tip! :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
