I have been following RNY for several months. Reading the post have made me realize that I am not in this alone, there are people that feel the same way I do. I am 56 years old and I have been overweight most of my life. I have tried every diet at least once. There is no telling how many pounds I have gained and lost in my life. I am married with two children that are grown and six grandchildren. I want to feel better and be able to go places without having to stop and rest or tell them to go ahead and I will wait on the bench for them.

In life there is that moment when we know we have to make a change. My moment was last November when I had to have emergency surgery on my knee. I was told by the Doctor that I needed to lose 100 lbs. asap or I was looking to have knee replacement within a year. The decision to have this surgery was not a quick decision. I have had severial family members who have died due to complications with type 2 diabeties. With the family history and having diabeties and high blood pressure along with the knee surgery it made me face the fact that I had to decide what to do and not put it off like I had in the past. My weight was of course a very big factor 310 lbs. Wow that took a lot for me to say.

When I had made up my mind I went to work on getting everything done so that I could have my surgery in the summer. My surgery is scheduled for July 20th, I am excited, nervious, and scared. I have to be at the hospital at 5:15 am, and that is a good time for me the earlier the better.

All of your post have helped me so much whether it was good or bad experieces. I feel like I am going on this journey with my eyes wide open thanks to all of you.

Wellcome! We have so much in common! I am 55, 2 grown children, 2grown step children and 7 grandchildren. I too am type two and lost my brother two years ago to the ravages of that disease. I wanted to share with you that I had my surgery on Monday, July 2. I have not had any sugar meds since! In face they have decided to move me from clear liquid to full liquid 2 weeks early because I am now hypoglycemic (something that I can manager once I start eating! Good luck on your surgery!

I've only been on this site for a few days and these people already feel like friends I've known forever. They will be so helpful. It's such a tough decision but I can't wait. Good luck to you in your surgery!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
