How Long Until Doing Housework?

Recommended Posts

I am a single, mom and will have some support but will be alone with my kids after a few days. How long until you all did dishes, laundry, made dinner, went to the grocery store, etc...you know...mom stuff?

Thanks!

In about a week you should feel up to all of those things. I started cooking the day after surgery. Just be really careful about lifting things...laundry is heavy!

I made dinner the day after I came home...went to the grocery store about 3 days after coming home....I have teens so luckily I didn't have to do dishes. Just rest and nap as much as you can the first week:)

I say great time to teach the kids how to do laundry and make sandwiches. I can bet they'd love to help. Well depending on their ages that is :) Otherwise I wouldn't recommend picking up laundry. I believe we're not suppose to pick up anything over 10 pounds or so for the first few weeks. Give your surgeon a call to see what their limits are.

Thanks! I talked to them and they said they will help mommy with dishes and laundry for a week or two. And I am going to make some casseroles for the freezer in case they get tired of Soup and sandwiches!

Great news Jenneliza. I bet the will love helping you. I made a big batch of chicken taco Soup for my son before I left. He loves it and I know its something good for him. I'm checked in at the hotel. Surgery in the morning for me.

I made up casseroles and bags of crock pot meals and put them in the freezer. Its easy to pop out and through it in the ovrn it crock Pot. I'm 13 days post op and yesterday was the first day I really felt like doing anything. I have a 6 and 11 yr old. They have been a big help. I gave them a list of daily chores and they have been great with it. We just got a new puppy too so they have been puppy sitting also.

You will be surprised how much your kids step up with this. You will be a proud momma and be able to get the rest you need.

Remember you need to walk alot after surgery. So you want to be moving. You do not want blood clots.

Also if you get gas you want to move inorder to release it. Best of all just do as the doctor says and you will be fine.

I took off a month just so that I was on pureed foods when I got back to work. It made lunch time easier on me.

I was told no vacuuming for 6 weeks. That was the only housework restriction. I'm two weeks post op and my mom wouldn't let me do laundry. She was scared of all the bending and the basket being too heavy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
