Hey guys sorry it took a while to update... My surgery this part Thursday went awesome!

*other than having a really bad experience with a rude nurse who I ended up putting a complaint on...

Things went Well, pain management was good, started to walk and for the first day able to keep ice chips and sips of Water down. Yesterday I had horrible lower back pain so Dr ordered an antiinflammatory med. REally helped! I was moving about like nothing:) IV was taken out yesterday evening...however I woke up this Am a little dehydrated, nausea, and headache. So my original time of discharge was pushed out a few hrs.

I had so much loving support from family and friends it was awesome.... My JP was taken out today and OMG that hurt like a bit** I actually screamed... I'm glad its out now, just gotta keep fresh gauze on it and dry. My steristrips are doing good ...Dr says my lives was gorgeous and wasn't a problem at all

Will continue this clear liquid diet until I meet with the Dr on Tuesday again then switch to my 3 days of full liquids:)

Long story short slowly but surely having a great recovery:)

P.s had lost 15 lbs total pre- surgery:)

hey everyone!!!!

So far my 2 days here at home have been a little hard due to the pain but I have been able to keep up with some of my walking:) My pain meds are due every 4 hrs but slowly I have been able to go about 5 1/2 hrs without it!! I'm toughing it out. Not to mention all the support and help I am receiving from my hubby and the rest of the family. They have come over to bring me or even make me some fresh chicken or vegatable broth. Very delicious. My bowel movements have started again. Ugh, dark and loose like expected the first day (saturday night) yesterday and today they are lighter and still a little loose. I sometimes have a little trouble keeping track of my Fluid intake. I soemtimes dont know how much I am actually drinking. I vary at times with crystal light, apple juice, jell-o, broth.< /p>

Any suggestions??????

THanks everyone!!!!

Glad your doing good. I'm curious to know what the nurse did?

So here is what happened:

On the day of my surgery (this past Thursday) I was in my room and had been awake about 5 hrs after my surgery. I was being well taken care if by the AM nurses who had me starting on chips of ice they were so VERY SWEET AND SO GENTLE WITH ME. I was also given a pain medicine thru IV 3 times within an hr and half since they only lasted about 30 min before it wore off. Before the last dose of the 3 i received was given to me there was a shift change with the NUrses. I remember the AM nurse coming into the room to dismiss herself and introduce the pm NUrse. BEtween both they administed the last 30 min IV med, helped me to the bathroom, and walked with me for about 5 min, in the hallway.

About 45 min later I was back in my room with horrible gas/back pains and feeling nauseated. I called for the nurse. I was responded thru the mic that she will be right in, SHe came in and was a little rude but I brushed it off. She gave me 2 oz of Water and asked me to sip it slowly for about 20 min. Once I was done, to call her again and she would start me on my oral liquid perkicet which was stronger and would last me about 4 hrs. I agreed. I did as she asked, PAged her the first time and they said they would let her know Im ready. 30 min went by I called again. They asked what is your nurses name I said Im not sure because she didnt write her name on the board and I only remembered the AM nurse I mentioned at this point I also need to go to the BR. they were kind and said ok we will figure things out. That lasted another 20 min. BY this time you can imagine how much pain I was in. my last Iv med had worn of alost an hr and a half ago. I paged the 3rd time almost 30 min later and again they said ok we let her know. she should be in shortly. well it took her 25 min to finally come in.

When she finally came in (1 and half hr later) she didnt even say hi nor was she kind at all. IN front of my family the first words out of her mouth was "NOW WHAT?" this ticked me off and made me emotional. I told her I paged for you about 3 times an hour and a 1/2 ago, I drank the 2 oz of Water like you asked, Ivebeen waiting for my pain meds, I need to got the the bathroom and Im in so much pain. she then answered me " well your not the only patient, and no one told me, plus I dont believe your in so much pain" I couldnt believe what she was telling me. I started to cry immediately and told her I am in horrible pain, I cant move without me screaming or yelping and I understand im not the only patient and yes I paged 3 times however if they didnt tell u maybe it because I didnt even know your name. you could have wrote it on the board. by this point she got more aggresive, rude and defensive. she said " well you just have to wait" My family became more upset seeing I was in pain and she was just standing there not even saying ok IM sorry, or let me get you meds. I was crying horribly now, feeling short of breath and I told her " i feel like you dont care and dont want to care for me, I would like to change nurses please or speak to the supervisor or charge nurse, I dont know why your still standing here and being so rude"

she said " well i dont care if you want to switch nurses, now lets get up because didnt you say you needed to use the bathroom" I replied yes, but I have waited so long that I think I can wait a little bit untill you find me someone please.

I swear I kept on being so polite and not being rude but she really had me so emotional. she kep on blabbing on andon saying you act like your the only patient blah blah blah, I ended up tell her "stop talking to me, Im not listening and IM not going to argue with you. so quit and find me a different nurse"

she just snickered at me and then as she was walking out in front of my family said " like i said i dont care if you switch nurses I will tell a differrent nurse to come if there is one available and if they want to come"

ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i swear as soon as she walked out I wish i had thrown a shoe at her!!!! My family and I were so upset, my husband more because I was crying and all!! I wanted to go home at that point and didnt care if I was dying of pain.

LOng story short the charge nurse came in with in minutes with my pain meds , asked to speak to me privately with my family and we discussed what had happened. SHe apologized and helped me fill out a complaint form. she immediately took care of me the rest of the night. She was back in the AM and was again my nurse. I felt so well taken care of.

I had trouble with my 3rd shift nurse as well. Lazy and rude but I loved 1st shift 2nd was OK (male nurse) not as compassionate. Take your pain meds before it gets bad that's how they work. Don't "tough it out" my Dr said people who are in pain heal slower. No need to be a martyr or hero. I'm 2 weeks out today and I still take my pain meds 2-3 times a day. Especially when I first wake up. I hold my pee til they kick in cuz it hurts to get off the couch. Hope you feel better soon

Technically I was supposed to start soft foods today but yesterday I was craving tuna so I pureed it with mayo mustard and dill relish it was delicious. I ate too much tho so I was uncomfortable for an hour or so. I mostly eat SF pudding mixed with Protein Powder and milk because I know it goes down well. I had clam chowder for lunch I went out to eat with my husband and that's really all I could have from their menu. I can have unlimited liquids without getting full. But any solids I get full fast. I need to learn to slow down. You'll get full before you realize it, by then its too late...if you want a buddy pm me ill give you my number ......Jessica

Thank you for letting me know what happen. That's so rude & unprofessional of this nurse to treat you this way. This is the 1st time since having 3 kids. That I was in manhattan hospital & every single nurse was sweet & nice to me. If I didn't have a family I would had mind staying longer.

I know what you mean by the time I was leaving I was actually wanting to stay! I felt at home was going to be rough! but on the contrary I felt the support. The only thing I dont miss from the hospital was them waking me up every 2 hrs for vitals if i was sleeping or even early in the morning!!! hahaha!

I do remember on Friday evening I was told not to chew gum! I remember the nurse walking i to do vitals and she say i took my gum out when they checked my temp. She told me im not sureif you know this but chewing gum can actually make you more gasy, she mentioned when you chew gum its like your swallowing air and it fills your tummy and then you can have cramps. I didnt know but then again that explained the cramps I had that night! when are u allowed to chew gum?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
