People are all different but, in the end THIS decision is your own. You are the one who will live your choice, no one else. Some comments will be condescending and others supportive. The ones that count are the comments you're telling yourself :) Shrug them off and let them know you appreciate their concern but, you and your surgeon know whats best for you.

The best weapon is being all studied up for yourself. Obtain all the info you can to keep yourself well informed, on track and prepare for the changes that come along. :)

Good luck!

Realize that you likely know more about this surgery than they do. Let them tell you how great you look afterwards!

With my surgery team we have to see a bariatric therapist. When he asked me of I knew of the complications. I told him that I knew that you can die from the surgery, but I am going to die without it. I was deemed ok to have surgery.

My husband and I are at the end of our pre-op check list.. We Have our EEG's this Saturday and we will be ready to schedule surgery dates a week later. But, I guess knowing that it will be a while before I can have my favorite foods, I have been eating more than I ever have. I know I wont have a problem changing my diet once the Doctor schedules my surgery, but I just want to know is this normal? I feel almost like I havent had to really watch my diet as much because help is on the way... Then I feel so guilty... Anyone else have this issue before surgery?

I don't think many people truly understand how hard this process is. I am 1 month post op and have dealt with issues I never dreamed I would have to deal with. This has been the hardest thing I have ever done, but is also the most rewarding. I know in the end I will be healthy and have my life back!

I did not realize I would miss chewing my food. However it is the first time I have truly enjoyed eating. Last week I could eat mashed potatoes and I savord ever bite! I look forward to trying new foods.

Keep your head up and listen to your heart!

I have to see one too, I am scheduled on the 10th of July to do that part. But yes exactly because my quality of life right now I am slowly dying anyways.

Hey I'm "technically" in the Fresno area! I'm in Merced but had my surgery at the Fresno Heart and Surgical Center!

I've been having a lot of people uneducated on the procedure try to down me for my decision. Sometimes, educating them is worth it, others not. But it is something how you're given their opinion like it really matters to you. If it mattered that much to you, you would have asked for it before you decided on the procedure.

I am a cheerleader so I have a lot of bone mass . I have always worn a 15/16 but when I gained weight I would wear a size 18 but they were kind of big . I'm really solid and have never had a lot of stomach ! Just thighs and booty ! I have big arms but they are the right size since u lift girls for a living .... But honestly.

Everyone carries their weight differently. Actually when I did weigh 190, I wore at 13/14 ! So I guess everyone is different !

OMG! If I have to hear that one more time I'm going to go chuck Norris on someone! I have heard every bad experience anyone has ever had' date=' along with why dont you do it the hard way and work out and diet. Obviously people don't realize how hard it is to get 240lbs (5'5) moving on a elliptical machine. Oh not to mention I donate to the gym every month right now. But a little info on me, since I just joined this site is that I am 23 yrs old, single mother to one beautiful 2 1/2 yr old. I weigh 240 and I am 5'5, currently wearing a size 22 pants. I have attended my seminar and I am scheduled next Wednesday for my initial consultation appointment. Found this app hoping to talk to other people who are starting their journey and read others success stories![/quote']

Landensmommy, THANK YOU FOR THIS POST! I just had ANOTHER heart to heart with my husband (who's 6'5 and 230- perfect) who can't seem to get past "You know what's healthy so why can't you just eat that?" It is impossible to explain the WHY of my food addiction to someone who has no unhealthy vices. So hurt and pissed.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
