Anyone Regret The Surgery?

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of things that are internally changed when we have weight loss surgery. Externally though, the only thing that changes is that we eat less and, hopefully, exercise more. That's it. What I find interesting is how many people in our lives are bothered by that. It's like we changed the terms of our relationships. What I am trying to do is realize that if the terms of our relationship required me to do unhealthy things to myself, maybe I don't need the relationship.

I am not minimizing the risks of the surgery itself. But if we have established that we are healthy following surgery and on the right track, we have to start wondering about people who respond negatively. If we go out to dinner and I eat 3 oz of Protein, why would or should that effect someone else? If I choose not to eat the appetizer w you, so what? If you want the appetizer, eat it. It's a choice on both sides that should be honored.

I am fairly new to my surgery but, even now, the benefits are fantastic. But had I had complications or problems, I could not regret the surgery because I looked at my life and decided I needed to make a change. Which takes courage.

If you research beforehand, you go into this w eyes wide open. And the opportunity is there to create a new lifestyle. Sometimes, that requires establishing new, healthier, more balanced relationships.

Great quote (not sure who said it originally) "The "same" person will become obese again.

Hope so. :) been up since 5 a.m. with a lot of pain. :/

Very uncomfortable.

Are you taking your pain meds? Are you walking? When I was in pain the best thing was to walk and move around. It might be hard at first but it really does help. Good Luke.

I would love to tell my story...but it's way too much HX.

The surgeon didn't do anything wrong ' date=' nor did I. There are complications with every SX out there. Some don't don't get discovered Until many years, patients, etc later. I just don't see any of those "stories" here and that concerns me because it's a life altering, good or bad, because someone posted a question, I posted an opinion , 13 years POST OP , and get slammed by negAtive emails. This is why I deleted this app so many times. Just do your homework , and remember this is a sounding board...nothing more. I went about 11 years before I could honestly say, YES I REGRET THIS SX. If my body could survive a reversal, I would.

Thanks.

You sound angry to me. Like you said this is a sounding board. Everyone has a right to their opinion. We as adults have to take responsibility and deal with our own issues. That's why we have the appointment with the psych to see if we are mentally prepared for the changes. I think some people aren't honest with themselves. I've been over weight most of my adult life and I can honestly say I never cared what people thought of me. I don't care how they look at me. With that being said I wish things were different for you.

This is so true. When I had my visit with the psych he explained that some relationships might change. I made the decision to do what was best for me. Those that don't agree (friends and family) I could care less.

I'm sorry you received negativity from the group. When reading all of these post I agree that negativity oozes to the surface when an opinion is posted that the masses don't want to hear. Usually its the cold hard truth. Its OK to gave regrets. I respect and appreciate your honesty and life has taught me that ain't NOTHING all good. I guess its just whethor or not we can and choose to accept and deal with it.

Best wishes to you said with all of the respect that someone with waaaaay more post op time than myself should receive. Therefore you know waaaay more about the long term changes than I.

I didn't mean to start anything. I just wanted to hear some cold hard truths which I have thanks to those who have shared. I can't imagine this has been an easy decision for anyone to have the surgery, and it's not going to be an easy decision for me or my family either.

Today has been a week. (Since surgery.)

So I'm still miserable. I wouldnt say' date=' I regret it.. but I believe I am still in the hardest part of the journey.

I do wonder "why did I do this to myself.." but that's because i am still having a hard time finding comfort, and realizing that this is done.. and over with, I had Bariatric Sugery!

I also believe that, the recovery has been a lot more difficult, then i ever thought it'd be. Pre op, everyone said, 'its tough, but your strong, and you'll make it through it!' Unfortunently I paid more attention to the fact that id make it threw it, Rather then really comprehending how difficult it just may be..

So I guess I may have gotten a little more then I originally bargin'd for. :)[/quote']

I felt the same way at a week. Told myself that a week was the magic point that things would improve and by goodness the drinking got easier and now I am 21 days post-op and enjoying walking for exercise. It is fun to see how far I can go and if I can shave minutes off the distance, lol. Hang in there :-)

Each and every person that has the surgery will go through struggles, we pray that are few

And far between. For those of you struggling now or have in the past my heart goes to you. For those of you who are not that is great. We just need to pray for each other and know that every person is differnt. My journey has just begun and I shed my first sad tears today when I could only walk for 13 mins. One day at a time !!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
