Pre-Approval Process Nerves

Recommended Posts

Are any of you going through the approval process and have a BMI lower than 40? Do you have Blue Shield of CA? My BMI is 36, (now down from 42). It may seem low, but I have a hypothyroid, gerd, a family history of diabetes, morbid obesity, as well as other health issues that having this surgery would greatly help. I've had all my classes, been cleared by nutrition and psych, and the only tests left are an echocardiogram and upper endoscopy. I am so ready for this, but I'm pretty nervous at this point...keep thinking, will it be approved or not?

Hi

I am going through the approval process as well...i am 5'2'' my bmi is around39..i have been investigating wls since 2008 this makes my third attempt i feel good about it this time...positive energy right!:-P

The things i have tried to be successful at weight loss are countless the depression and guilt of why can't i keep the weight off took its toll on me physically, spiritually, and mentally. So i am done with beating myself up as to why i couldn't keep the weight off the past is gone and i have learned alot now its time to pull no punches and loose to live..

I wish you all the best and hope you're quickly approved! Please keep in touch. Isn't it nerve wracking, all the waiting? I was about 270 2yrs ago-lost about 70-75lbs through weight watchers but it took over a year and I regained so easily. It wasn't even due to over eating, it was just my thyroid and not taking time for me by getting Water and meals in when I should. But things are changing now! I've got everything ready for when/if they give me a date after my last tests-except telling work :( Worse feeling is being torn between excitement, yet the potential that I won't get approved. Gotta change my attitude to "it WILL" ;)

Thanks for responding Jen. I will certainly keep everyone posted. It's awesome to hear you're approved w/out a lot of complications. How exciting for you! :)

A bmi of 40 seems to be the "magical" number for insurance in most cases. My echo and upper endoscopy are scheduled for 5/9 so the request should be submitted to insurance once those results are received. 3 long more days, then the wait.... Yikes. o_O

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
