I'm pretty nervous about everything.

I have told my dad, and he is supporting me 100%

i told 2 of my coworkers. 1 who is thin and told me, "if i were in your position, i would do it. it's your life, live it to the fullest, and if you think this will help you, go for it!" i love her :)

1 who is extremely overweight like me and said, "but Gabrielle, you're not that big... can't you just exercise?"

I feel like no one really understands the position i am in. the hubby is thin, my family - thin, the majority of my friends - thin. the majority of my coworkers are overweight but say that WLS is a cop out.

I'm scared. Surgery really scares me. It all seems so final.

but i keep thinking, I'll never be fat again. I'll be active. when i have kids, i'll be able to run and jump, swim and play soccer with them. I would love to be able to run a marathon. to get that "runner's high" to do yoga.

Kids is a big one. i want to set a good example for them when they come. i want them to have a mom that take care of herself.

My grandmother passed away recently. She always told me that i was fine the way i was. She was always the one who when i would diet, would cut me fruit and veggies and try to help me succeed. I'm sure she would be all for my surgery.

I could really use a buddy who is beginning the process. or someone to help answer my questions.

I'm going through the process with Kaiser here in north california.

My dad would like me to ask about experiences with Kaiser Surgeons.

Thanks for listening guys :)

Congrats on your decision!! You (and me) are doing this for YOU and no one else-just remember that. :) I found a great book to help with every aspect of the process: Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. It even touches on the emotions we go thru. It's a fast read and,, it's a resource to have forever. I think it was 20 bucks at Barnes and Noble.

Best wishes on your journey!!

I would look into buying the book " weightless surgery for dummies" it goes over choosing the right surgeon and questions to ask them. For example if they are members if the American society for bariatric surgery and if they are "center of excellence" that means they have meet the hightest standards by the surgical review corporation. Hope that helps and answers any concerns.

Fantastic SweetGabrielle!

My surgery is on the 25th of May. I am in Australia so I can't help you with surgeon questions, but I can sure share my journey with you. Although I haven't had my RNY yet, I have lived with a Lapband for nearly 4yrs until it slipped last year. Before the slip I was very successful with losing my weight - although the band was horrible and I'd never recommend it to anyone. So I'm already well adjusted to the WLS life. :)

Best advice I can give you is to not listen to the garbage that some "skinny" people will feed down your ear. Remember you are doing this for you and your future and not for them! I had people telling me I'd never be able to have children, that I'd never have enough nutrients in my body etc. these were people who knew nothing about RNY, and just read trashie magazine stories in regards to it. Ignore what they say and If something is upsetting you, or you feel unsure - just ask the surgeon, they will know best.

I wish you all the best with your surgery and your future ahead :) jac88

Welcome & I will tell you from my personal experience. I'm 211lbs 5'0 some ppl acquaint say I look fine. Others say with a few pounds less I would be great. My hubby is also a slim guy. My kids are all slim. My family is basically slim. I'm like the biggest one in the entire family, but this has no affects on me. I want to be slim because at age 33 I have back problems, knee problems, no energy, sex ah! If he gets it twice a month he's lucky. I don't wanna get or be nude. I avoid it as much as possible. I hate my body so I decided it was time to feel sexy with out clothes. I look good with clothes. So this was only my decision.

Do we sound alike?

we do!

i've gotten to the point where i've realized, i'm huge.

i'm 23. i'm 5'4 305 pounds 53% bmi

i don't like anything about myself anymore.

i use to be able to convince myself that i didn't look half bad. i can't anymore.

i feel like my weight controls my life. i want to do so much and i feel like it is holding me back. i would love to be active.

its depressing. i feel like with rny, it'll be that push i need to get it together.

any thoughts?

Hey SweetGabrielle,

We are also very similar. I'm 23, 5'6" and 310lbs. I am also having massive intimacy issues with my husband. I was 100lbs lighter when we met because my Lapband was still functioning... It's so hard to deal with the emotional side of it all!

Best of luck :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
