Hi everyone, just wanted some feed back on the purée food post-op eating. My doctor will be having me start the purée stage later this week and really I'm baffled at what exactly to make/eat. I have a guideline from my nutritionist and was just wondering what have you guys made and enjoyed? How about purée meats/tuna? It just doesn't sound so appetizing to me.

Any insight appreciated... Thanks!

Mary

tuna was a lifesaver for me! Hated it before surgery and now I love it!!!

I was bad and I did eat it with white bread but only on 1 slice and it helped coat it and make it go down easier but when I ate it without bread that early on it would get stuck so use caution! I also mixed fat free mayo with the tuna!

Yeah I am really scared just moving on to purée food! Did you ever try the canned chicken? When I had my lap band surgery that was like a staple for me!

Thanks for the pointers really appreciate the guidance as the RNY is a whole different world.

Canned chicken went down not good at all! Always got stuck but chicken was always a problem for me and still is! Funny thing is I can eat every other type of meat except chicken and that doesn't really bother me because I now eat more meats than I did before because my tastes have changed ALOT! I used to never get pork or ribs and those are 2 of my favorites now! I never ate Beans or chilli but I love those now too! Your taste buds change once you have surgery!

tuna has been a life saver for me as well. I have a half cup mixed with fat free mayo. I haven't had any trouble with canned chicken. I make it the same way. The purée phase much more interesting than the liquid phase. I haven't deviated from the surgeons list of foods. Puréed fish and meat didnt sound appetizing to me either so I stick to the canned tuna and chicken and also cottage cheese a lot. Best wishes!

Thanks do much ladies for taking the time to reply! It's weird since I'm not a newbie to bariatric surgery but this is such a different ball game. I'm so glad I found this board to help me through this journey.., really giving me great ideas for the coming weeks of my recovery.

I still don't think I'm going to be making any kind of meat purée lol I think of the jarred baby food meats I used to feed my son and even the smell of them used to make me gag.

Vamps- I think it's funny how you say your tastes have changed. Wonder if that will be so for me as well.

I'm just hoping to get some variety in the next stage! Trying to stay focused and do the right thing to ensure my body heals well.

Thanks again! Anything else you can think of I.e. foods you enjoyed during the purée stage please share away :)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
