Hi! I had my pre surgery class today and found out that I will have a catheter in for 12-24 hours after surgery. Any word on how uncomfortable it was coming out? I've had a stent in my ureter (kidney stone surgery) and had that removed while awake, just wondering if it feels like a pipe cleaner coming out lol

It was not uncomfortable at all while it was there, but it was very uncomfortable coming out; however, that uncomfortable pain only lasted about 5 seconds lol... The other part I didn't like about it, was that it was hard to urinate after it was removed, which was after 24hours. When I say it was hard, I mean that I felt I needed to pee, but it took a lot of concentration and patience before accomplishing that goal lol... I guess my body had already forgotten how to urinate already in 24 hours, and I had to reteach it lol.... Don't know if I'm the only one, but that was my experience... Honeslty, before surgery, that was one of the things I was super scared of, but all in all, it wasn't all that bad... I'd rather go through that again than to have the post op nausea I had.

Feels a little weird,..but not much pain wHen they remove it.. While you are using one try not to move too much or tug on tube.. It is annoying when u do. You will do just fine..

Thanks for the feedback! I'm sure it won't be too bad after having the stent pulled out before but it's those small things I think of lol

For me, it burned a little bit. Like getting your eyebrows waxed. But, I ended up with a UTI after they removed the catheter and I've heard of it happening to other people as well, so be on the lookout for that.

I plan on demanding its removal as soon as Im coherent. I will find a 10cc syringe and remove it myself. I'm a very bad patient.

Mine was removed at 24 hours. I was quite thankful for it that first 24 hours. The removal was nothing, it was weird when I went for a walk with the nurse she just clipped it to her scrubs ha ha.... Took my urine for a walk. My surgeon said it is very important the first 24 hours, that it is one of the first signs of a complication post op. If your urine levels drop.... something might be up.

Actually this is not unusual after surgeries in the abdominal region. I'm not sure if a catheter can contribute to it, but I did not have a catheter and I couldn't go for the first 18 hours. And I REALLY needed to go. When it finally eased up the next morning, I was never so happy to pee in my life.

I DO NOT WANT A CATHETER!!! Being a male, for the obvious reasons, it seems like it would be very painful. I can't even stand the thought of it. Mr. Surgeon, please leave my privates alone.

So....timely thread. I just had my TT yesterday. Just got my catheter pulled out about 5 minutes ago. It's not the most pleasant thing, but it's not the end of the world either.

this is probably an unpopular opinion, but ive had a catheter twice for my 2 C sections and i didnt mind it nor find it uncomfortable going in or coming out lol. I did not ever have issues with it or get a uti. Coming from someone like me who always has the urge to pee, i quite enjoyed not having to get up and go. Sorry if that sounds gross and wierd

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
