In the last couple of weeks I realise that I grieve being able to have a cup of coffee at the same time as eating a snack. Like at the moment I want one of my Christmas mince pies to take a bite out of in between sips of coffee. 😢

Instead I will have my coffee now and then wait about 30 minutes to eat the pie, not exactly the same satisfied feeling.

I am fairly sure you will be eating mayo and the like very quickly. Once you start on soft foods you will find the staple of egg salad a go to.

I am on full diet now. Just can’t tolerate Condiments. ketchup and mayo make me feel ill. My surgery was December 3rd. I got to go to full diet as tolerated on January 1st. I’ll be honest. There isn’t a whole lot I tolerate well yet. lol

Give it time @FifiLux. I say this as I’m sipping my cup of tea and eating crackers with labneh. Was probably into my 2nd year before I could do it and I do go slowly because I’m not a gulper and can’t drink lots of mouthfuls one after another. Sip, wait, take a bite, wait, sip, repeat. So you may not have been able to do it this Christmas, by next Christmas you may be able to sip your coffee and nibble on a mince pie.

Its early days, lots of us find some foods totally repellant, for me it was foods that I loved. pre surgery. chicken, fish and especially salmon were very off my menu. If I even thought of them I heaved. It was like being pregnant all over again. Then some kind soul on here explained that as we loose fat cells they release hormones. Early on we are flooded with these cells because we are loosing so rapidly. It does settle down as weight loss slows.

At 3+ years fish isnt totally off my menu but it isnt front and centre either. eggs revolted me before surgery, now I eat them most days.

So this forum is like my grief journal.. I grieve my normal way of eating. Everything I eat now feels me up quickly. It's like a favorite boyfriend that you broke up with and every new person that you meet afterwards just doesn't measure up. 😞. The obesity battle.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
