March 2007 Bandsters

I wanted to start a thread for those of us who are waiting "with bated breath" for our surgeries in March.

I am supposed to start Optifast on February 26th. I am currently waiting for the shipment, including my surgical package to be delivered. Once I get my package I am supposed to call the clinic.

Ever since committing to this surgery (which I am paying for myself via a personal loan) I have been obsessed with reading everything I can about it and about people who have had it. I am still kind of hoping for some kind of "divine word" about whether or not it is the right thing for me to do.

I am "only" 75 lbs over my ideal weight but am type II diabetic. I am trying to figure out if my reason for doing this is my health or my vanity or a combination of both. The diabetes needs to be gone (when I am 20 lbs lighter it is gone) but I am sure looking forward to losing the weight and actually keeping it off for more than 20 minutes...

I start my liquid diet on the 28th! Tammy, I also noticed we are about the same height ( I am 5'8"-- barefoot if that makes any difference- it does according to some charts), so since I am just an inch shorter than you, I think it will be interesting to see if our weight loss it at a rate that is at all similar. Or if it is going to be completely different! I don't know what your body frame size is-- I have a large frame and I love it! You have to weight more with a large frame than you do with a small frame, you know. When people ask I tell them my goal weight is about 170- we'll see what happens. My true goal is actually size 12 LOL. Right now I weight about 283 and size 22/24.

I start my pre-op diet the next day on March 1st! Only 2 more weeks!!!:omg:

I am actually almost 5'10"...5' 9 3/4". I have been recorded at 5'10" at some of my past Dr's visits, so at my first visit with my surgeon I bent my knees a little to make sure I was measured at 5'9" and recorded at 5'9". That extra inch makes a big difference in BMI and I was trying to get approved! I think I have a small frame. My wrists and ankles are very small and they don't match my body at all. We definitely have a different body shape since you are 5'8", 283 and wear a 22/24. I can barely fit into 22/24 (pants) so I think I am more bottom heavy.

As far as clothes, since I am a yo-yo dieter I have clothes that range from a size 18 to the 26 that I am wearing now. I can't wait to throw them all away and get into those 12's! I have seen a few threads on clothes swapping. Flabuless has a website on clothes swapping, but I don't know if it's up and running yet.

My doctor said since my bmi is over 40 then I should do it. To shrink my liver. He says usually your liver will swell when a person is over that bmi. Thats why my husband DOESNT have to go on a diet because his bmi is at 37 . and yes he is going in for lap band too. he is diabetic and a like 50-75 lbs over weight.

That is great!!! What a support you will be to each other! I am worried about how I will handle food around my husband. We have always been big eaters! :hungry:

Yep, I'm a teacher! It seems like whenever I do something major, it revolves around a school break! :clap2: I 'm hoping that this surgery will give me back some energy, because now I'm :tired all the time!

My pre-op diet is full liquids. I ordered some Medi-fast before and did it for about 15 days. Lost 13 lbs, but still have a 1/2 a month sitting in the pantry. I plan to do that for 10 days.

sorry I've been MIA.. my son got sick again and now I've been struck with it too....... I did get the letter from my doc yesterday stating what exactly my pre op diet is........... 24 hours of clear liquids and nothing after Midnight before surgery...... THAT IS IT

Hello everyone. My surgery is March 1, 2007 and I'm so nervous about it that I can't think straight. I mean I'm ready to have it, but I don't want to think about the pain afterwards. Does anyone have any ideas as far as protein shakes. I start my liquid diet tomorrow and I need something to give me some energy.

Whew Glogirl....I remember those days in the K section of things on Valentine's Day. I'm a 6th gr. teacher....and they were all a twitter today. DITTO...I'm beat too! Glad the day is over.

Congrats to all the March folks...here's hoping we'll all do well.

Good Morning March Bandsters and Welcome ebony868 and dec0578!!!!!! I will add you to our list!

dec0578, I don't know much about protein shakes yet. The most I've tried so far is High Protein Boost with only 15g of protein. Isopure from GNC is supposed to be good and has 30 or 40 grams of protein per serving. I've heard someone else suggest the Whey Protein Powder. I've seen it at Walmart and it has 25g protein per serving. I think you can find it at GNC as well.

Tracy, Only 24 hrs of clear liquids! You are so lucky!!! :D
